I've been trying to solve this by creating a fund - incredibly difficult in the UK to raise.
The reason UK universities demand more equity than US universities in "spin outs" is not that they're tougher negotiators. It's that they're too inexperienced to realize they're charging over market rate.

The UK *only* wants to buy investment grade bonds with guaranteed yields. Where's all the risk takers?

The universities do nothing for their position either. No introductions. Really poor advice. And you can't ignore the advice because they have 50%.

Unless you're talking about @tobi's Shopify or another well run company - tech is exactly the same. Just because some people made a webapp doesn't mean they're cutting edge technology with cutting edge ideas with engaged founders.
People in tech are most out of touch with the avg American f500 company. For instance Johnson and Johnson - you could not comprehend the mundane horror of that company’s daily operations.

“I have an undergraduate degree in English, I don’t know anything about the specialist subjects I am paid to write about” this is far far worse than if he had said nothing these people have absolutely no self awareness
Are we meant to feel sorry for this BBC reporter? He doesn't know the basics of his job & is now whining because people are calling him out. People are forced to pay for the BBC. We no longer expect impartial reporting but expect their reporters to have SOME knowledge FFS!

3% of “critical” software security bugs, in all of recorded history, have been found in the last month. This is on pace to find another ~100,000 bugs this year alone, adding ~26% more vulnerabilities to the all time total Do you realize how fucking insane that is?

If your company refers to engineers as the IT department, you have nothing to worry about. You were already breached last week.

Finance journalists who stands up and insists no one had any idea what the yen carry trade was.
To the people ragging on BBC's Joe Tidy for not knowing about PHP: Guess what? Nor did 99% of the general public. It is a journalist's job to help people understand complex subjects. We're writers, not technicians - we speak to the experts. (P.S. Joe is the best in the biz.)

PHPGate has started. The PHP Devs demand competence in technology journalism. Segfault of Akkad has started a YouTube channel.
No wonder people think PHP is dead. Turns out... nope.

If you have any kind of payment processing on your PHP site - regardless of if you use Stripe or any other method to defer CC on your server, act now before you get pwnd. You can easily end up capturing CC details on your service, and become Common Point of Purchase.
