i hold extremist political views such as "people should have their basic needs met" and "war crimes are bad" and "we should not accelerate the apocalypse for the profits of a few oil companies"

Hm there's no good case with AI is it? Either not controllable and world destruction or controllable and world totalitarianism?

"Agile" is not a code word for some rigid corporate process. It's in the dictionary. It means flexible, nimble, &c. Look it up!

Giants of the global economy like Intel, Boeing, and Sony have been aggressively mismanaged into irrelevance by executives operating on the wrong theories of the firm. Great companies have missions, not metrics. Read the new article by @mmjukic here: palladiummag.com/2024/08/30/…

Today alas I must once again tweet that software is not a complex adaptive system. If you’ve built something that suffers from unintended consequences, has non-linear responses to the same input, and is unpredictable in its operation you have badly designed software not a CAS.

There are many claims for the oldest pub in Britain. The most famous is the Trip to Jerusalem at Nottingham: reputedly opened 1189, but this was invented in 1909 by the landlord. In reality its a 17thC building that was used as a pub by 1751. So which is the oldest? ...a thread🧵

Let's have a serious conversation about the phrase "unskilled labor". Economists have used that phrase for as long as I've studied economics. At some point I became inured to it falsely thinking it's no judgment, just trying to classify workers. That's wrong. It's horrible. 🧵
If it's unskilled labor, why didn't your buddy just do it himself?

It's unbelievable how many dynamic companies broke their streaks of engineer-CEOs for the first time in the 2000s, installing their first MBA/finance CEOs, who then promptly made fundamental strategic errors that nixed the company's future, that are now becoming obvious.

I worked at a company building LLMs for customer support. The biggest lesson is that customer support and call centres serve as accountability sinks, not as something to help customers. Having people involved is just a waste from that perspective. Shuts fucked
Sourced From Reddit 'I work in a call center, so do 17 million people around the world. 95% of costs associated with call centers are due to staffing, and its a 300 billion dollar industry. I've recently been made aware of a demo with a new call center AI agent and I immediately started looking for a different career. The bad part is, my job and everyone else's in this industry is over, the good part is, you will never be put on hold again, the AI agent will likely already know who you are when you call, have predicted the issue you are most likely having, and be ready to offer the solution to that issue. Most people will not be able to tell they are talking to an AI Agent. 2 years max for the call centers to train these friendly, helpful AI's on every possible scenario, implement them, and fire everyone. Ai will take all our jobs. Fine by me - working in a call center sucks.'

The single most important thing I have learned about software development over my career is that if you do not aggressively fight complexity, it will eat you alive.

It's also incredibly problematic how huge swaths of the global economy and government all run on the software produced by this one company.
Okay, I'm just going to throw this out there, but maybe - just maybe - a vendor having the ability to change every one of their kernel drivers in the field at the same time without any approval from IT/end users is a model we need to reconsider... @CrowdStrike.
