☢️🇫🇷🇳🇱 The first France–Netherlands Nuclear Steering Group was held yesterday in Paris, marking an important milestone in relations between the two countries in the framework of Forward deterrence initiative.
The Netherlands already has significant experience in airborne nuclear operations, as one of the seven NATO states operating Dual Capable Aircraft (nuclear/conventional).
Dutch expertise in mine warfare, combined with the ongoing renewal of their dedicated fleet for this mission, as well as the acquisition of four heavy conventional submarines, could also enable The Hague to contribute to securing the movements of French strategic submarines in crisis time. It is worth noting that both the mine warfare and conventional submarine programs have been awarded to the French industrial company Naval Group.
Finally, this first NSG took place while the Netherlands is currently engaged in NATO's annual nuclear exercise, Steadfast Noon, symbolically underscoring the complementarity between US extended deterrence and French forward deterrence.

In their meeting with DDGNS Karine Herviou, the delegation the #Netherlands 🇳🇱 led by Afke van Rijn, Vice-Minister and Director-General of Environmental and International Affairs at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, discussed issues relating to nuclear safety and security.
The meeting also covered the Netherlands willingness to engage in the #ATLAS initiative, including leadership contributions to several working groups and the development of a strategic roadmap to guide the initiative’s future work.

Belgium welcomes the adoption by the @iaeaorg Board of Governors of a resolution confirming that 🇷🇺’s attacks on 🇺🇦’s energy infrastructure, incl. electrical substations, present a direct risk to nuclear safety and security, and reiterates support for the IAEA’s expert missions.
