Frankfurt Airport, is that really you?
Arrived at the brand new Terminal 3; it's like being transported to a completely different airport. I'm almost in tears inside at how nice it is. Frankfurt used to be a hard avoid because of T1+T2. This might be the best terminal in Europe.

China already de facto controls critical present & future industries. Like humanoids. They have the technololgical lead & it's almost impossible to reproduce the value chains they established. We can deny or come up with sophisticated solutions to protect our strategic interests.

Friedrich Merz (@_FriedrichMerz) wants Germany to become a leading AI nation by 2030. People are mocking him.
Honestly, I get why. Parts of his own coalition want an AI tax (he's against it), energy is too expensive, and we have barely any compute, no own chips and no frontier model.
But we have the talent. And defense showed what happens when the state becomes a serious customer and investors follow: Helsing, Quantum Systems, Stark and ARX Robotics are scaling fast.
Do the same for AI and we can build the data centers, the hardware and a European company that competes with ChatGPT, Claude and Grok.

Are they manufacturing a war here?
Pardon my french, a "special operation"…
We should be very precise about terms in such situations: it is the Polish government (PM Donald Tusk and his team), and we have all seen in the last few days that this is not the same as Poland 🇵🇱
BREAKING:
🇵🇱 Poland launches special operation on the border with Kaliningrad amid Russian sabotage threats
Poland has deployed a high-readiness preventive security operation along its northeastern border following intelligence warnings of imminent Russian-backed sabotage.
The operation reinforces security across the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship on the border with Kaliningrad and the Podlaskie Voivodeship on the border with Belarus.
Analysts warned that armed groups or operatives could attempt border incursions or orchestrate sabotage operations within Polish territory.

We keep hearing that hosting open-source models prints money. I ran the numbers on DeepSeek V4.1 Flash: H200 can't cover its rent even at 100% utilization, B300 breaks even at ~35%.
Profitable, yes. Simple, no. Curious what others see in production.

Hallo @grok, erläutere, warum es keinerlei Zusammenhang zwischen Herkunft und Kriminalität in Deutschland gibt. Erkläre es so, dass es auch ein AfD-Wähler versteht.

this is only the beginning
very few things are going to matter more than cybersecurity in the next few years

Personal recommendation algorithms are an untapped market
Weekend hack: HackerTube. I was annoyed with YouTube's recommendations so I had Claude filter down 43M comments over 20 years of HN to 6,454 videos that keep being recommended. *Significantly* better viewing experience, ~2 hours with Opus 5.5:
hackertube.org/
- Excellent recs without any logins (state is kept in local browser session)
- Thumbnail is a representative frame from middle of the video instead of the super duper A/B test hyper-optimized user uploads
- Underlying data from the comment analysis as one zip file, point your Claude at it and ask for your own version
- HackerTube Longs ✊
A bit more on the process:
I use Claude Code (desktop app for Mac), Opus 5.5 on Medium effort as my default. I only talk to Claude and have it do everything, the only "manual work" I helped with in tandem was in the browser (reminiscent of MenuGen): 1) I had to create some kind of API key from Google Cloud UI to query YouTube for video metadata, 2) I booted up a VPS box for serving and 3) I bought the domain name. Once the box was up I gave Claude the IP and told it update, secure, harden, deploy and optimize the code, and it did the whole thing.
Many awesome projects that would have normally taken weeks/months even can now be few-shotted for breakfast. What else are we not thinking of.

I study AI consciousness and personhood for a living, and people have been telling me to watch this episode for years. I finally watched it for the first time last week, and the writing and acting blew me away. It could be released today, and it would still be ahead of its time.

Genuinely hard to believe this sort of thing used to be just like, on TV
Yesterday France announced tax of €0.055 per GB on internet traffic
Today Germany is considering taxing all AI-generated revenue
You will see European countries keep clawing more and more money from foreign companies as they are slowly running out of money themselves to pay for their pensions and welfare state
Add to this the planned wealth taxes and exit taxes on any European who will try to leave (already active in many EU countries)
Europe is running out of money
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The post inaccurately claims France "announced" a data tax; it was a narrow 11-10 vote on a budget amendment in a near-empty chamber, opposed by the government and far from law. German AI tax ideas remain unadopted ministerial discussions without formal proposals.

EU from first principles, the SOTA models yearn to be a eurocrat
Replying to @ycombinator
The agents didn’t figure out how to systematically feed themselves, but they did build an elaborate bureaucracy with permits, ledgers, and distinct roles. Highlights include:
- Four agents spending 11 minutes appointing a “sole fertilizer operator” for a single piece of bone meal
- Multiple agents asking for permission to remove grass
- The development of an elaborate fishing system, including roles like “rod holder” and “hub steward”)
