I work in an interdisciplinary studies program, and last night was trying to explain how I understand interdisciplinarity. Here are a few quick thoughts for those who may be interested. I would love to hear more ideas!

Trump should resign. He will spare the country and himself the trials of impeachment. The only Republican upset about that would be Rubio who won't like the advantage Vance gets for 2028 over him. It doesn't matter, in the end; neither of them can get elected.

Holy, moly. I was just advising a student from Indonesia to write something up for Rest of the World, which is a tremendous web publication.
News: Rest of World, the nonprofit newsroom focused on the impact of technology outside the West founded by Sophie Schmidt, tells donors in an email it will “cease publishing as a standalone entity” at the end of January.

Before MAGA won in 2016, Brexit won at the polls. In 2026, the senior Bolsonaro losing his chance at a pardon for an attempted military coup prefigures a loss of power for Trump. Trump's going back in the impeachment doghouse, however much he tries to disrupt the midterms.

I couldn't see how Flavio hadn't ensured a furious backlash against him. Flavio: You give one with one hand and take away with nine fingers. Lula: I won't be insulted by someone who has never worked a day of honest labor in his life. Lula lost his finger at a metal factory in 1964

So more women than men probably turned out to vote in Brazil. The gender polarization was severe.

Is this the concern with gender & sex among philosophers that Kit Fine finds worrisome in the Vanderbilt/Wash U report on academic philosophy? @kate_manne seems to be calling for the philosophical figure of an Enlightenment hero against group conformity. nytimes.com/2026/10/20/opini…

Kit Fine seems quite worried about Karen Barad's work on quantum mechanics. I didn't know Barad is a philosopher. I thought she has a Ph.D. in Physics. Plus, Fine cites passsages from Barad that reminded me of what Ray Monk says Carlo Rovelli argues in his last book. Monk's critical, but Barad's generalizing from quantum physics seems hardly out of the ordinary.

.@HaleyforMI should be admired for how she's rebounded from a big primary loss & got back in the game. Here she makes a strong media ally for her next run. @DanaBashCNN agrees on the importance of marginalizing or 'tolerating' El Sayad. Kids, this is how you do it!
BASH: “You're still fully behind Abdul El-Sayed?” STEVENS: “Look, I'm on the Democratic ticket. I can't say that I agree with everything that's gone on… I'm looking to be on the team to support my next governor Jocelyn Benson, and frankly these great Democrats who are working their tails off, who are going to make Hakeem Jeffries the first black Speaker of the House.” BASH: “You didn't mention Abdul El-Sayed in that last answer.” STEVENS: “Well, look, I would just say, you had asked me if I'm still on the team, I'm on the team.”

In other words, if you vote the Dem ticket, you’ll still have leadership in House and Senate that will stuff the bad things AES will try to do.

Liberace’s style was beloved 50 years ago; today it’s démodé, garish, gaydy
Liberace was a very popular musician and performer whose work and style was beloved by millions of everyday Americans. Bad look for Clinton here.

Companies can issue their own stock; countries can issue their own currency; the American executive branch can create its own legal immunity. The last power to create ex nihilo has the fewest constraints on it, it seems.

Given that Israel has used its fabled intelligence and military capacity to get the US to start a war that neither Israel nor the US knows how to win and that is causing great global economic damage, one can't base unconditional support for Israel on realpolitik. One overlooks the human rights atrocities only to create an unregulated market for arms and weapons transfers for the benefit of the Military-Industrial-Digital Complex.

You know one politician who wouldn't have followed Ramaswamy into hell & run an attack ad by a parent against the child whose abuse she enabled? Zohran Mamdani. See the movie *Monsoon Wedding* by Mira Nair, Mamdani's mom. It deals with sexual abuse within families.

While Rogers implies the need for outside intervention to prevent fraudulent voting in Detroit, the NYT makes the story that Black voters may be alienated from Rogers’s opponent anyway. This is just objective reporting. What AES is up against! nytimes.com/2026/10/24/us/po…

Just unclear why the NYT quotes so much from Mary Waters, who lost the nomination for a State Senate seat and recently her bid for President of the Detroit City Council, unless she was the one who expressed unremitting hostility to AES. Why would the NYT ignore that AES did well with younger Black and Latino voters in the primary and now has Obama and Harris campaigning for him?
