Insane that algorithmic price gouging hasn't been taken up by either party (a slam dunk for the Dems); I am currently looking at the exact same flight on American Airlines, both logged in to my account, but from different browsers and one is $204 and one is $419

You know how Brazil reversed deforestation.
It wasn’t a bunch of conservation tax incentives for farmers.

Jake Tapper recommending Zahav to Jesse Singal is a bit on the nose, and moreso because it isn’t even a top 3 answer for limited men of unlimited means looking for high-end veg in that area. I’m taking psychic damage
kinda crazy this has An Answer, though there is a secondary nested answer if you don’t wanna learn to swim in the open ocean
Recommendations for best use of stream of consciousness writing in the last 50ish years. Any suggestions? @bradkelly @AmericanGwyn

This story is not getting enough attention, even though it is a dark portent of the political repression on the horizon all around the NATO bloc.
Five activists who damaged an Elbit Systems site in Ulm, Germany, are facing harsher treatment than the Reichsbürger, a far-right group accused of attempting to overthrow the German state by force. The two trials are being held in the same building.
The Ulm5 are held in a maximum-security prison, marched into the courtroom in handcuffs, and seated behind bulletproof glass two meters tall. On day one, the judge switched off the microphones of the defence’s legal team, and has since repeatedly refused to hear their evidence and expert witnesses, while rejecting a motion for an independent stenographer to keep a record of the proceedings. The only written record of the trial is the judge's.
Meanwhile, the Ulm5 all remain in prolonged detention — with stints in solitary confinement. The prosecution is seeking to argue that the attack was antisemitic in nature, as Elbit Systems is a “Jewish-owned company” and therefore the “baby killers” graffiti drawn by the activists amounts to blood libel.
The case sets a chilling precedent for any actions taken against German militarism, and no doubt forms part of a wider arc of repression that now extends from Britain to Italy. That is why the activists’ call for international solidarity and support is so urgent.
In a show-trial riddled with procedural irregularities, Germany is seeking to make an example of five activists who organized against the genocide in Gaza. buff.ly/i46zuHe
Uniquely worried about drones as harbinger of a very bleak few decades, but often the asymmetry will *not* be in the favor of currently empowered actors. Their quick adoption by cartels, Sahel militant coalitions, Colombian marxists to attack police stations etc speaks to that
Purdue University's IDEAS Lab built an autonomous drone that tracks runners through dense forests completely without GPS or cloud networks.
By running 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI entirely on-chip, it can weave under tree canopies and predict target movement through blind spots in real time.
Massive implications for next-gen search & rescue and edge AI.
Countering drones doesn’t scale up super well from shooting at them with a gun or hitting their drones with your own yet, usually only buying you a bit of time. Designs like this one seem like readymade assassination tools! A bullet that chases the target

I don't even feel you really have to call celebrating Lula's victory as libbing out since he's a committed leftist and this election was about like planetary survival

A bit sad US politics doesn’t have nearly the same poetry in its speeches. Would be unthinkable to hear Bernie say “they can kill 1, 2 or 100 roses; but they’ll never stop the arrival of spring”
Brazil was of two huge election results today—alongside the defeat of the nationalist leader of Serbia.
NYT writes: "the slate of candidates selected by protesting students had won at least 135 seats in Serbia’s 250-member legislature."

nice world of robust rail infrastructure intact and secure state regimes and absurdly relaxed border controls yeah you should fuck around in a VW van and get your mind rearranged by hearing a hindustani classical music number then shrug while your country destroys it all.

for pretty obvious reasons this is the thing that maximally hits my boomer resentment rage button. they lived in a world where you could take this journey and just fucked around coasting off the hospitality of poor people and looking for drugs.

went to visit a friend who’s a ceramicist and works in a studio with no phone signal in a tiny yorkshire village. he doesn’t listen to podcasts or music, only occasionally uses the radio, and when I asked him what he thinks about all day he just said “well, pots mostly”

i bought and read these two books when i was 17 because of the covers and found them insane and depraved. i haven’t read them since, but always thought the final note in almost transparent blue was incredibly romantic
