In a few weeks the Pittsburgh Public Theology Salon will reconvene to discuss human beingness, human personhood, and human rights. Are you reading Leo's encyclical, too? What insights have you gained from it? What conversations are you having on your couch or by the fire pit?

My daughter in college texted me excitedly that it’s been about a month since we released a @proneighbor Two Pour Spirits podcast episode and she’s excited to listen to the new episode that dropped today. I just about wept. It’s a wonderful reminder: Don’t try to make it big. Or be smarter than everyone else. Or have cutting-edge analyses. Just be faithful; step up to the mic; and continue to offer teaching to your children diligently (and digitally).

Can we live well with the things we make or are we forever doomed to make them idols? Can our devices help conform us to Christ? What vices is technology propagating in society and how do we combat them? Tonight @ccimorelli1 & @kdavidbennett sit down with @TheAlanNoble.

This past Friday, I hosted the Pittsburgh Public Theology Salon (as I do every month). I was in the mood to make and mix, so I crafted a spicy Falernum Negroni. Here are the specs: - 1 oz Plymouth gin - 1 oz Campari - ½ oz sweet vermouth - ½ oz Falernum (Maggie's Farm)* - ¼ oz Day of the Lord (Cointreau & spices) - Stir, serve up or over a large cube, garnish with an orange peel. *the Falernum should season the Negroni, not turn it into a tiki drink. Decrease amount accordingly. Try it, and let me know what you think!

Last Friday, the common good was sought, apprehended, and stretched, as Chris and Kyle recorded a Two Pour Spirits episode with Kevin Tan, a Pittsburgh-based civil engineer. They talked bridges and Christ, sushi and hospitality, and dealing with anxiety.

Is God more like an Architect, Auditor, or Artist? As bearers of His image and disciples of His Way, how best do we witness to Him? Through our plans, professions, prayers, or play? He commands us to love our enemies. Is that more like building a bridge or making sushi?
This week, on Two Pour Spirits, Chris and Kyle take a brief hiatus from their musings on machines to talk with Pittsburgh-based professional engineer, Kevin Tan. Kevin specializes in bridge structural design and transportation project management. He also has mad sushi skills.

They’ll talk: 1. Loving our neighbors through good design(s). 2. The relationship between (civil) engineering and civility. 3. How to build bridges (figuratively and literally) with others. 4. Are there parallels between designing and hosting?
