"It seems to me that a decision has been made to replace doctors and to remove distinctions between doctors and other professions. It's no coincidence that the NHS continues to struggle with efficiency, productivity, and safety problems while we progress further towards a blended workforce without the necessary training supervision or regulation." If a country doesn't want to pay for a "free" health service.... why should it have one?
Basically...what the powers that be are saying is this. 'We can't afford the NHS. And to sustain it, you, staff, need to take a below inflation pay-rise aka a cut.' Now- to improve work productivity, you need a couple of other things- beyond pay. Good working conditions, less discrimination The NHS can't offer any of the above. And wonders why the NHS isn't productive. Workforce planning is an ethereal thing in the UK health care system. So we are where we are.

very good point. Why should doctors not be able to ship around for better pay, but have to accept the NHS virtual monopoly?
Effectively NHS staff must face real time pay cuts to fund the service. I was once a big advocate for the NHS but now I think there is no way in a monopoly employer that we will ever get fair conditions.

strike dates coming up?
Emergency meeting of CC tonight re 'talks', Government seriousness, 'affordability recommendation' to the DDRB.

Cutting doctors’ pay won’t keep them in the NHS. The DDRB must show its independence and recommend what patients and the NHS need, not what the Government is prepared to pay. Full statement: bma.org.uk/bma-media-centre/…

Another week, another paper for @GeorgeTofaris & colleagues This week, they report the epitope accessibility & topology of extracellular vesicle-associated α-synuclein proteoforms, rather than their abundance alone, discriminate synucleinopathy subtypes academic.oup.com/brain/advan…

Delighted to share our latest @TofarisLab paper in @Brain1878 by @_Suman_Dutta et al. Using dSTORM to map the topology of extracellular vesicle-associated α-synuclein, we identified disease-associated conformers in both brain- and blood-derived EVs. academic.oup.com/brain/advan…

Dylan Cope died after an A&E nurse practitioner mistook his abdominal pain for flu, having ignored his GP’s referral for suspected appendicitis. His family thought she was a doctor. A coroner found he would have survived had a senior doctor examined him. telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…

For Palantir lobbying and buying politicians is a high return investment for contracts worth hundreds £m and huge training datasets Watson is one of many
Later today protesters will demand ‘No Palantir in our NHS’    While they protest, someone, somewhere will get an operation scheduled earlier, a cancer diagnosis quicker, a loved one home from hospital sooner - thanks to the software that those protesters would switch off.   Here is what you won’t hear. Trusts using the software have recorded: • 117,000 additional operations • 14.3 per cent reduction in discharge delays for long stay patients • 5.6 per cent improvement in the number of people receiving a cancer diagnosis within 28 days     As a more articulate person once said: ‘certain facts, although in a sense known to be true, are inadmissible.’

England’s health service has acknowledged that some of its main claims about the benefits of Palantir’s software are not causationally robust, leading to calls for an independent audit of the tech company’s impact. ft.com/content/9348bc28-fd7e…

second @proukakis - just send over the patrol every working day from 8-9am and 3.30-4.15pm - you will see violation on violation. You don’t need us to report it to you @haringeycouncil because we are telling you that people illegally park there every day. Seeing it day in day out

One week after a child was killed on a zebra crossing outside @highgate1565 , 3.40 pm five illegally parked cars, and @haringeycouncil saying nobody available to enforce! Does it need another death to wake up? @HamandHigh @BBCLondonNews @LBC . Photos of cars available

Latest from my lab. Social isolation is a risk factor for neurodegeneration. We tested social isolation effects in a fly model of TDP-43. We found that early life isolation primes flies for rapid neurodegeneration later in life. Congrats to all authors! biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…

Just days after a kid got killed by an Addison Lee cab in a zebra crossing, this asshole thinks he can park his obscenely large car on double yellow right across @highgate1565 , with no sign of @haringeycouncil or @metpoliceuk trying to police the dangerous chaos. @HamandHigh
