Kalaiyarasan A, an economist and Associate Professor at Madras Institute of Development Studies was allegedly illegally detained by Tamil Nadu police this morning. He was picked up by Tamil Nadu Police at 5 am today on some random allegation which he had no connection and was later dropped home at 7.45am. His alleged detention comes days after he gave interview to a television channel on price hike.

And the arrest didn’t look like an arrest of a former Minister. Usually, if not across the state, at least there would have been some noise in the minister’s native and in Chennai. A third general politician, a former minister, close aide of LoP was arrested and below is the scene outside Chennai CoP office until 8pm.

DMK former leader starting from Anna to Kalaignar to other stalwarts haven’t done the politics black and white like this. Party’s internal affairs have always been dark. Adding to what @sivaetb sir has written, the statements of DMK Prez and LoP saw a shift in their words. When police filed case against former minister KN Nehru, both used “எதிர்கொள்வோம்” putting the party’s weight behind him, and when Anbil Mahesh was arrested, both used “எதிர்கொள்வார்”.

We are not going to do any purchase of power for the quoted rates of Rs 37 to 41.
We have opened the tender today and several vendors quoted very high prices. Since we have sufficient power to manage for next 3 months and power is being procured in advance for next summer these prices are unreasonable. In the mean time we will be coming out with Medium and Long Term tenders for upcoming 20 years.
Hence there won’t be anymore Gas purchase for higher price and i have already instructed to cancel the below tender

Sources said All 17 accused were reportedly lodged in the same cell. When jail police personnel entered the cell after being informed that one inmate was unwell, the accused allegedly assaulted them and escaped. Three police personnel sustained injuries, including a Grade II constable who suffered a head injury.

One of the 17 prisoners who escaped from Theni District Prison, Praveen of Madurai, has been apprehended. He was found hiding in a wooded area behind the prison and was brought back to the jail by the police.
