Abu Ghraib Shocked the World. Brutalization of Palestinians Barely Inspires a Shrug 🔗bit.ly/3SoEaqa
So many parallels to the US' war on terror: accusations of torture, dehumanization of captives, flouting of international law, brutality of occupation. Yet, no one of note was held accountable. Remember the outrage over images from Abu Ghraib? For Palestinians? Silence has been deafening.

"We congratulate Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries..."
AIPAC congratulates the hundreds of pro-Israel Democrats and Republicans who won their elections last night. More than 234 candidates supported by AIPAC members have already won, with many additional races still too close to call. We congratulate Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries on the resounding victories for their caucuses.
AIPAC members are determined to expand their political activism in the cycles ahead. Our community will increase its support for Democrats and Republicans who recognize that a strong partnership with Israel helps keep both countries secure, advances peace and stability, promotes democratic values, and grows our economy through trade and innovation.
Some election observations:
- MAGA is fading, if not dead. (If you’re a Trump supporter, you can be angry, but Trump did this to himself with his war of choice in Iran, incessant corruption and cozying up to tech oligarchs.)
- People are pissed about the Iran war and its collateral consequences, particularly its impacts on the economy, and they let it show
- There may be a new political coalition forming against AI and data centers — and that likely will be huge going into 2028
- Candidate quality matters. Even for some people (like myself) disillusioned by the duopoly, Democrats simply put up a better slate of options.
- Schumer and Senate Dems suck for barely lifting a finger to support Angie Nixon, who nearly won a Senate seat in Florida (!!!!!) with her grassroots campaign.
- This is not 2018. This is not just an anti-Trump rebuke. This is not the fake resistance. This is a historic revolt, which may cause some political realignment. The Iran War, the economy (which was bad for normal people prior to the outbreak of the war) and, I can’t underscore this enough, the AI/data center backlash (which may end up being the defining moment of this election), all led to this historic trouncing.
- I wrote this after Trump won in 2024: the election was a referendum on neoliberalism. In 2028, it may be a referendum on imperialism and hegemony + the oligopoly. It’s early and 2028 is a long way away, but the ostensible leaders on the GOP side, JD Vance and Marco Rubio, will be tethered to Trump’s decisions whether they like it or not. They’ll be afraid to disavow Trump within the next year, and by the time they do it (if they do it), it’ll be too late. MAGA is also in bed with the obsequious tech/AI oligarchs that America increasingly despises — and the candidates who are against data centers and the AI boon will reap the benefits.
- Israel. This is it. Americans are tired of genocide, they’re tired of Palestinians being slaughtered and dehumanized. They’re tired of the fear-mongering and Benjamin Netanyahu’s years-long propaganda campaign (how long has Iran been two weeks away from a nuclear weapon?).
- And there’s so much more to digest as exit polls continue to drop. I can’t recall a midterm in which so many serious issues came together at once. This does feel like a pivotal moment for society.
I will never not get annoyed at political leaders referencing their Constitutional responsibilities when they've allowed multiple presidents to fight wars without authorization for more than two decades.
There’s little reflection on NY during major elections, but a Dem winning the TOH is the biggest sign that Dems enjoyed a huge night nationwide. As machines go, not sure any is more entrenched and powerful than TOH GOP.

So about as many Jewish people voted Democrat as usually do. I look forward to seeing this perennial discourse next election anyway.
That tsunami was not only a massive rebuke of Trump but of the MAGA obsequious tech oligarchs. There is a new political coalition rising out of the data center/AI revolt.

If the remaining results go as expected, Democrats will hold governorships in states totaling 392 electoral votes.

Voters are rejecting Islamophobia a lot louder than many people in national media

Democrats will now control the House and Senate and be able to hold Trump accountable. That's great.
At a time of massive income and wealth inequality, we must do more. We must aggressively fight for working families.
No more excuses.
