I love when people underestimate my ability to never speak to them again. Once I’ve reached my limit, there’s no long explanation, no begging to be understood and no going back and forth. I simply accept what happened, detach and move on with my life. People get so used to your patience, your forgiveness and your willingness to work things out that they assume you’ll always be there, no matter how they treat you. They forget that even the most understanding person can reach a point where they no longer want anything to do with them. I can care about you, love you and genuinely want things to work out, but once something in me switches off, I know how to walk away for good. Never mistake my willingness to forgive you for an inability to live without you.

Life gets so much better when you learn to let people lose you instead of begging them to choose you. There comes a point when you realise that constantly trying to prove your worth to people who can’t see it is exhausting. You stop chasing, stop over explaining and stop making yourself smaller just to fit into someone else’s life. You begin to understand that you don’t need to convince anyone to value you, make room for you or treat you with the love and respect you deserve. The people who genuinely want you in their lives will make an effort to keep you there. Let people walk away if that’s what they choose. Let them misunderstand you, underestimate you or realize your worth when you’re no longer around. You don’t have to fight every battle to prove that you mattered. There is so much peace in choosing yourself over people you have to beg to choose you.
