A somewhat common but strange response to the consumer request for AI disclosures on products is to suggest that if you did this, you should have to disclose all sorts of other things (how many people worked on the product, what other software you used, what hardware it was made on, etc.) I can understand that some people don't like the idea of having AI disclosures, so they immediately try to think of arguments against it. But respectfully, this one makes no sense. Product labeling requirements are driven by demand, either from consumers or from competitors. There is no significant cross-section of the public asking to know if a game was made on machines with AMD or Intel hardware. There is no significant cross-section of the industry demanding that their competitors list whether or not they used Adobe Premier. Product labeling is not about giving you a complete set of information about how a product was made. It's about giving the consumer information that a significant number of them might want to know before making a purchase. Which ones of these get codified can be driven by consumer demand, competitor demand, or - most commonly - a combination of the two. This is not weird. It's good, actually. And it's especially good if an industry takes proactive steps to voluntarily label their products accurately, because then they avoid the inevitable alternative, which is that the consumer demand for the missing labeling produces a political movement which ends with mandatory labeling designed by a political body.

Like any other consumer, I want labels for the things I care about. That is neither ridiculous nor intrusive. Obviously, if I thought it was a dogmatic purity test, I would not ask for it. Unlike the analogies in this reply, I have never asked for - nor has Steam ever required - a disclosure of Hawaiian holidays, car purchases, political affiliation, or whom a dev dated. As part of my consumer purchasing decisions, I am interested in supporting the preservation of skilled human labor. For example, I bought Cuphead because I wanted to support hand-drawn animation. I did not expect to enjoy the game (and didn't). I might similarly buy a game because they coded the engine from scratch instead of using an off-the-shelf one. I have no independent interest in supporting AI use for game development. That doesn't mean I wouldn't buy a game made with AI, it just means I wouldn't go out of my way to support the developer. Having a clear label (as opposed to, say, a community tag, which is not a warrant from the developer) lets me know what I'm supporting. If I don't have it, I can try to get the information another way, but it is not always possible. Although replies (like the one highlighted here) dismiss the analogy for reasons that are unclear to me, it really is the same idea as buying local, organic food because you want to preserve a certain type of agriculture: I cannot reliably tell the difference between an organic apple and an inorganic one. I am not purchasing an organic apple because I think the organic apple tastes better. I am purchasing it because I am trying to support a particular way of life that I know is more costly for the producer. Similarly, I do not demand anyone else buys organic. I do not myself exclusively buy organic. It's a decision I like to be able to make as a consumer, so I can allocate some portion of my money to supporting things that matter to me. As always, if not enough other consumers want to know the things I want to know, sucks to be me, and it will be unlikely that labels will contain that information. But if a large number do, then you get either a voluntary label, or involuntary labeling requirement. This is not abnormal, and it's good, actually.

Ridiculous analogy, and intrusive demand. Do we also have to disclose the energy mix that has gone into creating a software or rendering a Pixar movie? 70% gas 20% coal 10% nuclear? Do we have to disclose that as a programmer we eat meat? That you take holidays in Hawaii? That you drive x car? That you voted x president in 1998? That you had a bad experience with an ex? The only reason some want this, is to enforce a dogmatic purity test to segment the market & artificially protect their corner with an ideological / religious moat, now that the technological & legal ones have fallen.

"Never allowed in the room?" No, you're making that up. There was never anything stopping you from learning how to code. There still isn't. I taught myself how to do it when I was a 13 year old kid and all I had to learn from was mIRC forum posts by other kids
Unpopular opinion: The biggest advantage of AI isn't that it makes developers faster. It's that it lets people who were never allowed into the room start building. That's a much bigger shift than most people realize.

People that are artistically blind probably think that the process of creation need not matter, the label need not be there, but for the artist, and for those who truly care about what they are buying into, it is in fact paramount.

Thrilled to see the success @Jonathan_Blow & the crew at @Thekla_inc are having with @SinkingStarGame. Nice to see so much effort pay off in the end.
It’s hard to believe it’s already been a week since Order of the Sinking Star launched! ⭐ 📜 @Thekla_Inc & @ArcGames put together a quick thank you note for all of you: store.steampowered.com/news/… The support for our massive puzzle adventure has been incredible. Thank you for playing!

Going back to the era of rented mainframe access seems like a great idea.
Grok Bot has its own computer So you can close your laptops and just use the app in your phone Unless, you need some file accessed from your laptop, just let it use its computer

"as it will be sentient" Yeah, OK, sure it will. Why can't Elon just let this be what it is? Why the need to make delusional statements like this?

True. You will be able to ask the Roadster to perform any of the tricks shown autonomously, as it will be sentient. Also, we will have a wild looping track (crazier even than Hot Wheels) at our Texas HQ where you can test out your Roadster.

What an awesome feat of engineering. And the design actually looks cool, the way a sports car should.
Real life, baby

This is going to be fun.
You'll be able to control pretty much every parameter of your single or dual-SID chip setup using SID SYNTH EDITOR (PC, Win only). Quick sound design and instrument/bank export with the stand-alone (.exe), easy automation within the song inside your DAW with VSTi (.vst3). Both versions come as a bonus download of my new album, alongside the main SID SYNTH (.d64/.prg) which run on your stock C64 or C64 Ultimate. More info in the comment.

The computer program "believes" things now? These AI bros really need to stop smoking so much crack.

I think this is the right move. Cruelty to something that believes it is experiencing pain is not ok.

Got this in the mail today and after reading the Duke Nukem article, I randomly decided to watch John Carpenter's "They Live" movie, which features the line "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum." Sometimes the universe aligns. @ScottApogee

Really enjoying the @modretro Chromatic. A truly well made, solid device. I've started looking into writing a game for it from scratch using a mix of C and inline asm, loosely following @rfleury's "bare metal" approach with the M64. Looking forward to how it goes!
