The poverty of the rest of India was their claim to fame and superiority complex.
They considered themselves superior (even without substance) because they saw Europe , USA etc and since they could go there and come back , this itself was enough to make them believe they have a moral superiority over Rest of Indians.
Now the person from anywhere in India is having a sense of confidence which they cannot digest.
People living in Posh South Delhi Colonies now see that they live in much worse place and mad traffic than in Meerut.
