@GhostOfFrederic Thanks for sharing this perspective! I agree the variability in polar methane is striking—your graph really highlights that. The albedo effect reducing methane’s impact in the Arctic is a great point, often missed in these discussions. That said, I’m curious about the long-term trends. NOAA data (like from gml.noaa.gov) shows global methane rising steadily since the 1980s, and with Arctic amplification warming the region faster, do you think permafrost thaw could still pose a risk of larger methane releases down the line? Would love to hear your thoughts!

It looks like polar methane is extremely variable so less panic and more investigation needed.
Also, high polar albedo means methane as a GHG is much less effective there.

"potential use of nuclear weapons"
BREAKING: Hegseth fires the Pentagon's chief planner, Army Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia, from the Joint Chiefs of Staff, per The Atlantic.
Defense officials said the main reason for the firing was that he clashed repeatedly with Elbridge Colby, the Pentagon's top civilian for policy, causing Hegseth to lose confidence in Sylvia.
Colby is the official who said in August the US is reviewing the strategy for the specific and potential use of nuclear weapons.
He is at least the 5th general pushed out this year, each holding a key position.

On September 16, I was denied entry to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, where I was due to speak about peace in Ukraine. No reason was given. Three days earlier, Zelenskyy had imposed sanctions on me, so I suspected a connection.
German MEP @FabioDeMasi questioned @EU_Commission. Its response confirms that non-EU sanctions have no direct legal effect within the EU. Yet there in mo official explanation for my exclusion.
I know that this was a personal decision by @EP_President Roberta Metsola on the demand of Zelenskyy. It means the European Institutions fulfill orders from Zelenskyy. Her chief of cabinet, @MattTabone, (also her brother-in-law) has implemented the ban. Who is protecting whom, and why is the truth being withheld?
Thank you, Fabio, for pursuing this matter and defending transparency and freedom of expression.

Trump is reportedly planning to restart war with Iran after the election.
Some of us have been briefed on the war plan. And while I cannot disclose any details, I can say this: the plan is insane. It will not achieve objectives and will set off a new cycle of escalation.

A donkey's mistake left 51 dead
According to foreign media, worshippers inside a mosque in #Afghanistan were performing their prayers when a frightened donkey bolted and entered the mosque. Some angry worshippers opened fire on the donkey, killing it.
The news reached the donkey's owner, who, enraged, rushed to the mosque, opened fire on the worshippers with a hail of bullets, and fled.
Thirteen worshippers were killed inside the mosque.
The remaining worshippers, enraged, launched an attack on the donkey owner's village using light and heavy weapons, killing 38 people, including 33 women.
Ultimately, a donkey going to a mosque resulted in the deaths of 51 people.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This story of a donkey causing 51 deaths at an Afghan mosque is false and has been repeatedly debunked. The video shows a 2022 shooting in Karachi, Pakistan, over a money dispute with no fatalities; no such incident occurred.

Wild that the attacked tanker didn't even report the incident (not authorized by CENTCOM?), another ship just saw it on fire and gave the heads up to UKMTO.

BREAKING ANALYSIS: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has just released a formal statement that states that Iran "continues to give diplomacy a chance to succeed", and that Iran remains in "close and ongoing contact with intermediaries to review implementation of our 7-Day Plan".
Many people in the West are grossly misinterpreting what Araghchi is saying here, and inaccurately viewing this as an "Iran is desperate for a deal" statement.
That is not the case.
Ever since the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran first fell apart, Iran's demands haven't shifted in any way whatsoever.
While people tend to interpret statements, particularly from Araghchi and Ghalibaf, as indications that Iran is begging for a deal, the reality is that they are desperate to avoid a reckless and hopeless escalation from the United States which they know has no chance of producing any change but greater global economic devastation.
That is not what Araghchi, Ghalibaf, and Pezeshkian in particular want. They know that they have sufficient munitions and capabilities to completely shut down Project Freedom along the Omani Route. They know that they can very easily devastate Gulf energy infrastructure, economic infrastructure, and AI data centers. They know that this war reached its strategic conclusion months ago.
To view this statement from Araghchi as "desperate to cower to the United States" would be a severe misunderstanding of what Araghchi is saying here.
What Araghchi is communicating is that Iran is WILLING to make a deal with the United States IF that deal is actually one that is reflective of the strategic outcome of this war, which overwhelmingly favors Iran.
He sees that President Trump is currently agreement incapable, and that his rhetoric in recent weeks indicate that reckless and hopeless escalation is on the horizon...
And THAT is what Aragchi is communicating. Iran doesn't WANT to devastate the global economy. They don't WANT to devastate Gulf energy infrastructure. They don't want to cause untold damage just because President Trump is entirely incapable of living in the realm of reality.
But if push comes to shove, have no doubt. Iran will respond without constraint, and it would be the single most foolish decision that Trump could make.
