Gas-powered cars no longer dominate global auto sales. For the first time since the 1920s, they account for less than half of new vehicle purchases worldwide. 🤯
The shift to cleaner transportation is accelerating, signaling weaker long-term demand growth for oil.

"Ripping out these protected bike lanes against the will of Toronto city council is a colossal waste of $48 million. The province’s own experts know it will not ease traffic congestion, it will put people’s lives at risk…”
One of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen any politician do to any city.

Leaving aside the devastating health and climate consequences from coal for a second, and assuming we only care about near-term affordability and reliability, doubling down on coal power makes zero sense.
So why is Saskatchewan choosing this path?

Canada needs to diversify away from a hostile US and seize the clean energy transition.
By aligning with the EU on decarbonization and electrification, we make the strategic move for trade, for resilience and for the environment.

Canada talks a good game on the international stage, but we're increasingly derelict on one of the biggest challenges facing humanity.
Where is the leadership? The PM and premiers appear to be racing to the bottom on climate action.

Fossil energy system: super inefficient, appallingly polluting, very expensive, old technology. The opposite of solar, wind, battery storage.
For those who may be misled by figures for primary energy, I recommend this recent article by the Rocky Mountain Institute: rmi.org/resources/the-incred…
Sounds about right, sadly.

Methane - 86 times more powerful than CO2 over 20 years - is being emitted from thawing permafrost all over the Arctic. This is expected to add 20% to global warming this century, more later. Important when every fraction of a degree counts.

In the past 50 years, we have seen phenomenal global warming. Here, I used the average global temperature from 1970 to 1979 as the "zero point" (I was born in 1977, which is why i selected the decade.
But hey, sure, lets worry about other things.

I often see people claim that because clean energy sources like solar, wind, or nuclear are manufactured using fossil fuels their emissions are high. But thats absolutely not the case: even accounting for full lifecycle emissions they are vastly better than burning coal or gas:

Most people won't even recognize what is going on, but the stresses that climate change imposes on human systems will often increase costs that ripple through the economy as a pernicious source of inflation.
“The findings are part of the growing body of research into how climate change is reshaping inflation, a phenomenon some economists dub “climateflation”… a permanent rise in everyday living costs driven by fossil fuel dependency and extreme weather destruction, locking in persistent inflation that strains household budgets worldwide”

The world is fast approaching a series of major climate-induced shifts.
For those following the developments, keep your eyes on the oceans, which are the main thermoregulators of Earth's climate system.
Here's some free advice to politicians.
Yes, oil pipelines are having a moment in terms of public support.
But you know what Canadians hate? Publicly subsidizing the oil and gas industry while climate change rampages out of control.

The future of energy is electric. 🔋⚡
We are living through an information and energy revolution. And as costs plummet and #ElectroTech scales, fossil fuel demand will peak and fall.

This is a major problem: Canadian media aren't connecting the dots on wildfires and climate change.
If we want to get serious about tackling wildfires in a heating world, we need to know a major cause: burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.

Politicians in Canada are afraid to admit the truth: tackling climate change means phasing out coal, oil + gas.
Germany has a plan to do it in 19 years.
Does Canada really want to sell the last drop of oil in a world on fire?

Fun fact, the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climat Change) Working Group 3 Lead Author meeting starts tomorrow in Bangkok, amidst one of the worst climate change disasters ever to hit the city. JFC.
This feels timely. Let's add some nuance to the noise.
"The health behaviours with the strongest evidence are often the least exciting: regular movement, enough sleep, not smoking, sustainable eating patterns ... and access to primary care."
