NOMIS–Gladstone Fellow Cathrine Sant (@cathrine_sant) is studying an enigmatic region of the human genome linked to neurodegenerative disease risk.
Sant is co-mentored by @ryancorces and Lennart Mucke.

New scRNA dataset from a local SF startup Crownlands. 4M cells using olfactory epithelium biopsy from 202 individuals. *living* individuals, not postmortem. Will be cool to see how this platform plays out with more disease donors eventually. Nice to see the processed data public!

@cathrine_sant was recently awarded a NOMIS-Gladstone fellowship to study how genetic variation impacts the brain. This fellowship program is targeted towards highly accomplished individuals on the academic track pursuing interdisciplinary neuroscience research. (1/2)
There are a few spots left in this highly competitive (and well-compensated!) program. Co-mentorship across two @GladstoneInst neuro labs is a cornerstone of the program. Check it out, repost, and feel free to reach out to me if you are interested. (2/2) gladstone.org/nomis-gladston…
I'm truly honored to be one of this year's MIND Prize recipients. I look to many of the past recipients as the rising stars in neuro research and to be considered among them is inspiring. Can't wait to see what we can find with this support at a critical time in science funding.

Just posted a preprint on a huge new single-cell study of Parkinson’s and its application to understanding noncoding variation. 🧵below. Led by Shreya Menon and Adam Turner and in collab w/ GP2 (@ASAP_Research), @BelloyMichael, @ZihHuaFang and others. doi.org/10.64898/2026.03.05.…
Perhaps most importantly, we’ve made all of the raw and processed data publicly available. The Multiome data has been released through the @IGVFConsortium at data.igvf.org/. We also provide track hubs, CELLxGENE, and a lot more. Check out the data availability section.
Honored to be a part of this year's @arcinstitute Ignite Award cohort alongside so many other (more) brilliant scientists! And huge congrats to my @GladstoneInst neighbor @andcyang for being named an Innovation Investigator!
Arc's community continues to grow this fall with our 9th Core Investigator @jvpluv and 3rd Science Fellow @maya_m_arce joining us in Palo Alto, along with 7 Innovation Investigators and 15 Ignite Awardees at our partner universities.

CHOIR is officially published @NatureGenet. No more arbitrary decisions in clustering. Add this to your single-cell toolbox - it will save you so much heart ache. And now it can scale to millions of cells. Compliments of the very talented @cathrine_sant.
CHOIR is now online @NatureGenet! CHOIR is a new clustering method for single-cell data that evaluates whether clusters represent statistically distinct cell populations. CHOIR scales to millions of cells and works with single-/multi-omic data of any type!

For nearly 2 decades, Alzheimer’s disease (AD) “genome-wide” association studies only covered the autosomes. Today we unveil the X chromosome and prioritize SLC9A7, a.k.a. NHE7, as an AD risk gene.
