I'll likely be quiet for the next few weeks. Fractured the upper humerus bone on my right arm a couple of nights ago. Can't type, except one handed. Can't drive. Can't work. Thankful for the whisper.cpp tinkering I did a few months ago and the FUTO keyboard on Android.
My results have been pretty mixed. Sometimes amazing, sometimes an utter waste of time. I don't think AI has a lot of training on how to design a GPU.

Nerdy Talk: A few days ago I modified the C code of my computer's compositor so that when the right Control key is pressed the recording starts and when it is released it stops that recording and sends that to voice to text. Consider it like a push-to-talk mode. No more playing around with audio thresholds trying to find two seconds of quiet time.
I worked with Claude this morning to fine-tune the levels on my input microphone as well as the noise floor for knowing when there's actual silence. I'm not saying I will be chatty, but it certainly beats trying to type with just my left hand. I have a couple of weeks left before I can remove the arm sling.

If I saw this at my house, I'd be taking advantage of my contract with @JPPestServices
I meant to share this a couple of weeks ago when it arrived. In a few more weeks, I'm sure it'll get regular use. It is crocheted by hand by Peg aka @Fireborn63 .
For those with reservations about the pom-pom on top, it is removable by a simple snap.

Computing-wise I feel so bipolar sometimes. I ♥️ the retro vibes of a Linux like @LundukeJournal's LCOS but also the TRON-like aura of what we're seeing with @omarchy Linux development. (see attached post)
Meanwhile, I've been rolling my own setup with Arch Linux and heavily patched (by me+Claude) DWL.
And I think that spectrum of look and feel is one of the plus sides of Linux in general.

And stop:
2. Downsizing but turbo charging to compensate
3. Replacing geared transmissions with CVT's.
Brands like Toyota and Honda used to have no problem easily getting past 250k miles.
If you save a few miles per gallon (to meet EPA demands) but hurt the longevity of your car, you have not helped the environment.

Interesting perspective. It reminds me of when I researched how many lives were taken due to direct surgical abortion over the last half century compared to deaths from wars in all of recorded human history.
While I have mentioned that laptops and computers benefit greatly from voice to text, especially when you have an injured arm like I currently do, another one that saved me a lot of sanity is for web browsing.
It is the browser extension called Vimium.

Worse yet, it's often treated -- Left or Right -- as a mandate and the hand gets overplayed.
“Unprecedented!” “It’s a tsunami!”
Good grief, people. What happened yesterday — the losses the Republicans experienced — is not only NOT “unprecedented”… it’s *normal* and *expected*.
A few facts, from modern history, to put things in perspective:
- Since 1900, during mid-term elections, the party in control of the White House loses seats in the House and Senate 87% of the time (27 out of 31 mid-terms).
- Yesterday’s mid-term doesn’t even make the “Top 5” list, since 1900, of seat losses for the party in control of the White House. In fact, it is unlikely that this election, when the dust settles, will even make the top 10.
- That includes the Democrat loss of 64 seats in 2010, and the Republican loss of 42 seats in 2018. Both of which are much larger than yesterday’s seat loss.
- This election also wasn’t the biggest surge of Socialism or Communism within the USA since 1900 — the 1910s were filled with such examples, with openly Socialist politicians like Berger and London.
Was yesterday an impactful and noteworthy loss for Republicans?
Absolutely.
Was the loss of seats “unprecedented”? Not even a little.
In fact it would have been a statistical anomaly if it hadn’t happened. This election, when you look at the numbers, was *astoundingly* normal.

I would ♥️ to put @omarchy on my (Snapdragon) Thinkpad X13s. I use that laptop <5% of the time, despite its amazing battery life, because Windows 11 feels so so different from my comfy Linux setups.
Replying to @dhh
Omarchy 4.6 is already far along too. And this one won't take as long to drop. We'll flesh out the entire Snapdragon line-up. Perfect the NVIDIA N1x machines. Out-of-the-box local AI. And hopefully finish Omarchy Kids and some of the other promises that weren't ready for 4.5.

For fun I did a build/install from source of 0.2.6. It reminds me a lot of my early days with RSS via Mac's NetNewsWire.
I'm currently a @NewsBlur guy and it was interesting to try them side by side.
omafeed 0.2.3 is out! An RSS reader for Omarchy.
This release includes a new aarch64 package and fixes for @omarchy theme switching.
I'm obviously biased, but it's one of the apps I use every single day. Give it a try!

192GB ... in a laptop! Cranking on some local AI.
I'm picturing Sam Altman channeling Greta Thunberg and screaming, "How dare you?! I need that RAM more than you!"
It was great to see so many Omarchy users at Fireworks Forge today, but it was especially great to meet turbo install champion @AnushElangovan in person.
He even brought a gift! The insane 192GB AMD 495+ HP monster machine 🤩
YES! What I've long wanted in an RSS Feed Reader! Thank you, @NewsBlur
