Liam is a huge loss The Telegraph is not going to survive its new owners.
I was hoping to be able to announce this in my own time – but the media rumour mill is swirling, I'm being contacted by various reporters and others, and I don't like denying the truth, so ... I wrote my first "Economic Agenda" column in The Sunday Telegraph 27 years ago, under the editorship of Dominic Lawson – filling-in occasionally during the late-1990s, before being given my own weekly slot from 2003. Since then, while I've been heavily involved in television, and am perhaps better known as a broadcaster, penning "Economic Agenda" for The Sunday Telegraph each week has been the backbone of my journalistic life. On Thursday, the @Telegraph rang to tell me my column is being scrapped. I was asked, and have agreed, to write "Economic Agenda" until the end of November, as per my contract. After that, my Sunday Telegraph column will be no more. Why this decision has been made, and whether or not my columns were any good, is for others to judge. All I will say is that, as the first person in my family to attend university, sustaining a weekly column in a leading national newspaper for a quarter of a century has been a source of enormous pride for myself and my family. Lots of people have been asking me about the future of "Planet Normal" - the hugely-popular Telegraph podcast which I co-created and co-present with the brilliant @AllisonPearson "Planet Normal" has, over the last 330 weekly episodes, also become a major part of my professional life and my broader identity. With Allison reportedly leaving the Telegraph as well, there is a lot of speculation about whether or not the podcast will continue to impart "news and views from beyond the bubble" with our usual blend of sharp analysis, humour and occasional outrage ! Well, I am delighted to confirm that Co-Pilot Pearson and myself are deeply committed to our joint podcast – and, above all, to our beloved listeners. We will, as and when notice periods allow, continue our voyages through space every Thursday – perhaps to "Planet Normal", or maybe to another part of the solar system – so we can "gaze down each week at the madness of Planet Earth", as we have done since the Spring of 2020. So citizens of Planet Normal, stand ready ! The "rocket-of-right-thinking", the "flying refuge of reasoned views", will soon be launched once again 🚀🪐👨‍🏭👱‍♀️🎙️📺 I poured my heart and soul into "Economic Agenda" and "Planet Normal". The Telegraph's decision to scrap them is obviously a huge personal blow. But I will always be grateful for the opportunities the paper has given me. Above all, I would like to thank the illustrious list of successive Telegraph business editors I've worked with since the late-1990s, many of whom have become and remain good friends - including @Peston @RobertsDan @larmitstead @neilbenet @benjaminmarlow @cg_williams @kamalahmednews @MarkKleinmanSky @jamesrquinn (sorry if I've forgotten anyone, it's been a long time!) On Friday, even though I almost always write my column from elsewhere, and despite being extremely disappointed by the paper's decision, I decided to go into the Telegraph and write today's column sitting in the newsroom. I am glad I did - as being at the heart of the paper at such a difficult time allowed for lots of conversations, with everyone from junior production staff to senior reporters and executives, which reminded me that journalism, despite being an industry at the whim of seemingly endless and often brutal commercial and technological upheaval, is not only hugely important to our country, but full of talented, decent people. See picture below, having just filed my piece, as I was heading out the door ...

'On Thursday, the Telegraph rang to tell me my column is being scrapped.' Alison Pearson too. How bloody disgusting. And good luck to you Liam and Alison with your podcast. Shame on the Telegraph, who now no doubt will go the way of the Guardian and soon be begging for subscriptions.

🚨: BREAKING NEWS!! A LESSON FOR ALL OF EUROPE! When Tusk's allies made their move on Poland's top court, Poles didn't shrug and scroll past. They took to the streets of Warsaw in the middle of the night, and their President came home to stand with them.

In Warsaw, Polish patriots stand against Donald Tusk’s breach of the Constitution. The Prime Minister is forcibly seizing the Constitutional Tribunal to impose the EU agenda and serve Brussels elites. Poles reject mass migration and the surrender of our sovereignty.

Caroline Voaden Liberal MP, clearly wants another Reform representative maimed or murdered. The dangerous sociopathic stalker @CarolineVoaden has been revealed to be. Look at the language of hate, this is how an extremist was provoked ot smash Ann Widdecombe's head with a hammer.
I am sick to my back teeth of this shit. Her Liberal Democrat colleagues said she was "shoved and sent flying", clearly in the video footage no such thing happened. Yet the media has jumped on this because that evil Brexit fella is the (wrongly) accused.

IL NOSTRO NEMICO NON È LA RUSSIA. IMPARATE A RICONOSCERE I NEMICI. Il nemico non è a Mosca. È a Bruxelles. È a Davos.

Poland 🇵🇱 (30/10/26) Pro-EU globalists Brussels cult has been royally exposed for corrupt cartel, it really is. Tusk has messed up on epic proportions, best wishes to all Polish patriots. >@brivael
🚨 European union and globalists just crossed a line it can't uncross. And almost nobody noticed. 🚨 ⚠️ Friday night in Warsaw, the president of Poland's Constitutional Tribunal was suspended for a month. Within hours, police sealed off the building. The head of the country's highest court was left standing outside the gates of his own court. Protesters cut the chain on the gate with a saw. The President of Poland turned his plane around mid-flight to Senegal and rushed home in the middle of the night. Donald Tusk's response: "Restoring the rule of law is our duty. There is no other way." Read that again. Restoring the rule of law with riot police around a constitutional court. ⚠️ Whether you like PiS and its judges is not the point. The point is the precedent. A government just showed that you can push out the head of a supreme court through an internal maneuver, secure it with uniforms, and call it "the rule of law." The next government, whoever it is, now has the playbook. And Brussels? Not one word of condemnation. The same Brussels that froze billions for Poland for years in the name of judicial independence. That triggered Article 7. That unlocked everything within weeks the moment the "right" government took power. ⚠️ The message to 450 million Europeans is crystal clear: the rule of law is no longer a rule. It's a label. You stick it on your allies and peel it off your enemies. And that's exactly where everything breaks. A civilization rests on one thing: trust in the rules. That the rule applies to you the same as to me. That a judge doesn't depend on who won the last election. When that trust dies, everything else follows. Slowly at first. Then all at once. Look around. ⚠️ Security: a high-intensity war on our doorstep for over four years, armies we let wither for three decades, a defense that still depends on Washington, and a continent unable to decide anything fast. ⚠️ Economy: energy we can't afford, industry packing up and leaving, not a single tech giant at American or Chinese scale, growth running in place, and a regulatory machine that produces more rules than companies. ⚠️ Politics: governments hanging on by a handful of votes, voters who no longer believe anyone, and trust in institutions at rock bottom everywhere. At the top, an elite that spent twenty years telling us everything was fine, that the project was irreversible, that the only real danger was "populists." They're taking on water from every side. And they know it. When a system feels its legitimacy slipping through its fingers, it does exactly what Warsaw just did: it replaces persuasion with force, and calls it virtue. It never starts with a spectacular collapse. It starts with one institution bypassed "for a good cause." Then a second. Then you stop counting. 🚨 Warsaw, October 30, 2026. Remember the date. The other dominoes are already tipping.
