House Dem leader Hakeem Jeffries Oct. 7 statement: “Three years ago today, Hamas terrorists intent on destroying Israel launched an unthinkable massacre, murdering, kidnapping and sexually assaulting innocent Israeli civilians, as well as American citizens.” Jeffries mentions Palestinian deaths and Gaza destruction in third graph.

We must never forget October 7th. Three years have passed since the most horrific attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust. The passage of time cannot lessen the horror of that day nor the pain carried by those who survived it and those who lost loved ones. We must also recommit to fighting the rising scourge of antisemitism in all its forms, wherever and whenever we see it. We pray for a just and lasting peace. Am Yisrael Chai. 🙏 🇮🇱

As I told @nytimes’ @liamstack, @NYCMayor’s statement on the 3rd anniversary of #October7 is morally perverse — like sticking a knife into the pain of the #Jewish community. It is hard to describe how offensive this is: nytimes.com/2026/10/07/nyreg…
This day is profoundly painful for so many New Yorkers. It marks three years since the horrific war crimes of October 7. On that day, Hamas killed more than 1,100 Israelis and abducted 251 others. We grieve alongside our many friends and neighbors who still carry that unthinkable loss. The suffering did not begin nor end that day. It instead continued through the Israeli government’s devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which it has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians—including more than 21,000 children. Even since the so-called ceasefire, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed. That suffering has intensified with every Israeli bomb dropped on ambulances waiting outside hospitals, every drone strike targeting a residential building or journalist, and every shipment of food aid turned away at a border crossing. Many New Yorkers are reckoning with this unbearable grief, and we mourn alongside them – all while knowing that our tax dollars fund these war crimes. Three years later, we must refuse to accept a world in which occupation and apartheid continue, where war crimes are met with impunity, and our federal government continues its complicity with every arms shipment. To honor the dead, we must fight for a world in which every person can live with freedom, safety, and dignity.

Holding an anti-Israel rally on October 7 is like holding a pro-Nazi rally on Holocaust Remembrance Day.

I say this as a fan of the mayor: Can’t we have *one day* to simply mourn the greatest loss of Jewish life since the Holocaust? Depressing that this tweet doesn’t end after the first paragraph.

Over the past week, I have been rewatching gut-wrenching videos taken by Hamas terrorists of their own massacre of Israeli families, grandparents and children three years ago today, reading about new accounts of hostages in brutal captivity, and thinking back to my own experience taking my young children back and forth to a bomb shelter as rockets rained down from Gaza. I think often about how the Iron Dome may very well have saved my family’s lives that day, along with thousands of other innocent civilians in Israel.  Since 2007 when Israel withdrew from Gaza and turned control over to Hamas, neither Israel nor Gazan civilians have been in charge. Instead, it has been governed by a globally-designated terrorist group whose stated mission and sole focus is to wipe out Israel, which they tried to do three years ago and then carried on for years by holding hundreds of Israeli hostages in brutal conditions in their terror tunnel network. That terrorist group remains armed and dangerous in Gaza today, still fully committed to wiping out Israel, the world’s only safe haven for Jews and the only democracy in the region.  If you are someone — like me — who wants peace in the region and self-determination for all people there, then Hamas represents a complete and total obstacle to that goal. As we remember the devastation inflicted by them on this day three years ago, we must also recognize that Iranian-backed terrorist groups such as Hamas remain an existential threat not only to peace in the region but also to democracy around the world.  Today is a day of mourning and remembrance of all those innocent lives lost, those who were wounded both physically and mentally, the hostages who survived through unspeakable conditions, and a country shaken to its core by the genocidal attack three years ago. Tomorrow, I will continue working towards a path to peace, security and self-determination for Israelis and Palestinians alike. Am Yisrael Chai.

This was Kfar Aza as I witnessed it, twelve days after the pogroms of October 7, 2023, the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. Not a day has gone by in the last three years that I have not thought about the lives lost to Hamas’s murderous rampage, the horrors faced by their hostages, the terror that the attacks struck into the heart of Israel, and the rise in antisemitism that Jews worldwide have experienced. And in that time, I have tried to mark the tragedy by mourning with my community on each anniversary of 10/7, as I will do today; by giving voice, as best as I can, to the concerns and aspirations of the Jewish community; and by taking action to combat antisemitic violence and hate in all of its many forms. As I look back on this photograph, I am struck by the rays of sunlight breaking through the trees in the distance. It is hard, so much of the time, to see light through the darkness. We must keep trying. I will keep trying. I pray for comfort for the bereaved and for a future of safety and peace for all.

We will never forget what happened on October 7th. Three years ago, more than 1,200 people were murdered in the horrific Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, and 251 people were taken hostage. We recently hosted Nova Festival survivors Shalev Biton and Younes Alkarnawi at City Hall, together with my colleagues and @UJAfedNY. Shalev escaped the festival grounds just in time, finding refuge at Younes' nearby farm along with 32 other attendees. Heroic actions like these remind us that even with the evils that exist today, we must continue to respond to that hate with hope — and we will continue matching that hope with action and pray for peace in the region.

It’s hard to fathom that it has been three years since the October 7 Hamas massacre. Three years since the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. The pain of that dark day has not faded. But neither has the strength, resilience and enduring hope of the Jewish people. Today, we remember the innocent lives stolen, stand with the survivors and the families forever changed, and pray for a lasting peace.

Last night at @metmuseum, we celebrated the tireless, dedicated members, district managers and staff of Manhattan’s 12 Community Boards who give their time to make our neighborhoods stronger. From housing and street safety to parks and local businesses, their work helps shape the future of our borough. Thank you for showing up for your neighbors and making sure their voices are heard. With 115 Community Board vacancies next year, there’s room for you to help shape Manhattan’s future, too. Stay tuned for application details!

I’m proud to have joined with my colleagues Rep. Nadler, Speaker Menin, and Councilmember Brewer to pressure City Hall release of these files, and I applaud the Mayor for taking this long-overdue step. These documents confirm what we’ve known for a long time: the air at Ground Zero was unsafe to breathe, and those in power ignored the danger. Now the survivors, first responders, and victims’ families can begin to find closure, and hopefully the World Trade Center Health Program — which we were recently able to fully fund — can learn more about what has caused so many 9/11-related illnesses. Honoring our commitment to Never Forget requires that we continue to fight for these communities every day. nytimes.com/2026/09/07/nyreg…

The release of these files is an act of justice for victims of 9/11 health-related illnesses. While we can never reverse the harm caused by the toxins that heroes and civilians breathed in at Ground Zero and in surrounding areas, victims and the public deserve this transparency. Local and federal officials failed our community by lying about the dangers, and now their betrayal is public for the world to see. nytimes.com/2026/09/07/nyreg…
