Mawlid al-Nabi Mubarak to Muslims around the world. May the example of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ continue to guide us toward justice, mercy, dignity and service to others. Wishing peace and blessings to all who mark this day.
Mawlid al-Nabi Mubarak to Muslims in New York City and around the world. Today, we honor the life and enduring legacy of Prophet Muhammad (May Peace Be Upon Him), whose teachings of compassion, generosity, justice, faith, and service have inspired communities for more than 1,400 years. Here in New York City, his example reminds us that caring for one another, embracing our diversity, and serving our communities, makes us stronger as we work to build a better New York City for everyone. Wishing joy, peace, and blessings upon all who celebrate.

I call upon New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to oppose the Madison Square Garden event featuring Mohan Bhagwat, the head of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Bhagwat does not represent some harmless cultural organisation. The RSS sits at the centre of a political movement that has spent decades advancing a Hindu-majoritarian vision of India. Its ideology has repeatedly placed Muslims, Christians, Dalits and other minorities in the position of having to prove that they belong in their own country. This cannot be separated from what India has experienced over the past decade: growing anti-Muslim rhetoric, attacks on religious minorities, campaigns against interfaith relationships, discriminatory politics around citizenship, and the normalisation of language that treats millions of Indians as outsiders. New York is home to Muslims, Dalits, Christians, Sikhs and many others whose families have lived with the consequences of this politics. They should not be expected to watch one of its most powerful ideological leaders receive a prestigious platform in their city without challenge. Hindutva is increasingly being exported abroad through political networks, lobbying, cultural organisations and diaspora institutions that attempt to present an exclusionary political project as nothing more than Indian identity or Hindu culture. Opposing Hindutva is not hostility toward Hinduism. Mamdani has spoken forcefully about equality, racism and minority rights. Those principles should apply here too. New York should not lend prestige or legitimacy to politics built on religious hierarchy and exclusion. @NYCMayor @ZohranKMamdani @Hindus4HR @IAMCouncil

The hijab cannot be banned in the name of “liberation” while women’s autonomy is ignored everywhere else. Liberation without choice is just another form of control.
Whether the hijab is essential to Islam or not is for religious scholars to decide. From a socio-political standpoint, we stand firmly for women’s bodily autonomy and agency. Every woman, irrespective of caste, class or religion, is entitled to wear what she chooses — hijab, ghoonghat or anything else. #BreakTheCage #SmashThePatriarchy

The hijab cannot be restricted in the name of “liberation” while women’s own choices are dismissed. If freedom does not include the right to choose what you wear, it is not liberation at all.

Not listening to rap is a preference. Making a point of being proud that you don’t listen to rap is a dog whistle. It’s not subtle.
Sophie Cunningham makes it known she doesn’t listen to rap songs before games
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
In a 2025 interview, Sophie named Lil Wayne and Drake as some of the artists in her pregame listening rotation. clutchpoints.com/wnba/wnba-stor…

Not listening to rap is fine. Being proud of not listening to it is a pretty obvious dog whistle.

There is clearly a whole ecosystem ready to defend Nathan Cofnas — media outlets, commentators, academics and institutions. It is hard to believe this level of influence exists without serious institutional backing.

Myanmar reportedly banned “The Kafala System” book because it exposes trafficking and forced labour in scam compounds targeting African migrants around Myawaddy and other border areas. Banning the book does not make the abuse disappear. mimimefoinfos.com/myanmar-ba…

You do not get to spend years arguing for racial hierarchy, attacking Black achievement and calling it “race realism,” then cry persecution when someone finally draws a line.
I was just suspended by Ghent University. They will almost certainly fire me. The decision was made by rector Petra De Sutter, a former leader of the Green Party.

I’m going to write a book about Jason Arday and the wider issues his case brought into focus: racism, “race realist” politics, media scrutiny and how Black achievement is discussed. I think there is a larger story here worth documenting.

Deeply saddened by the passing of Asish Banerjee, former Deputy Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly and a longtime public servant. My condolences to his family, friends and all those who knew him. May he rest in peace.

What surrounded Jason Arday was not some neutral academic debate. Nathan Cofnas, “race realist” rhetoric and relentless media hounding converged around one Black man, while people with nowhere near his academic record pumped out video after video sitting in judgment of him.

You do not get to participate in the relentless public hounding and then, once he is dead, retreat into solemn language about how “nothing is clear.” Jason Arday was turned into a spectacle for ridicule and racial grievance. You helped feed that spectacle & the sudden delicacy now is grotesque.
