And then someone will convince you how Kagame is a puppet of the West, but somehow, someone who has sold all his country's natural resources to the West is a panafricanist!
Why does the US keep kicking Rwanda out of AGOA? Watch President Kagame explain how we got here. 🎥 Video: @MarioNawfal

RWANDA, A TINY AFRICAN NATION, BACK IN TRUMP'S TRADE WAR Trump is once again using trade privileges to pressure Rwanda, moving to remove Kigali from #AGOA amid differences spanning politics and Congo conflict. This is not his first attempt. In 2018, he punished Rwanda for refusing to keep its market open to discarded American second-hand clothes and shoes, as Kigali prioritised building its own textile industry rather than having its citizens depend on what others wore and threw away. Eight years later, the trade confrontation is back. #FactsOnRwanda

🔗 ustr.gov/about/policy-office…

RWANDA PUNISHED DAYS AFTER DEFENDING AFRICA'S TRADE SOVEREIGNTY Less than a week after Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe declared in Russia that Africa should not be dictated how to conduct its trade, President Trump removes Rwanda from countries eligible for AGOA's preferential trade arrangements. A striking coincidence? #FactsOnRwanda

RWANDA AND SOUTH AFRICA IN TRUMP'S CROSSHAIRS: CONGO'S MINERALS, ELON MUSK'S STARLINK AND A NEW AFRICAN GEOPOLITICAL SHOWDOWN President Donald Trump is moving to remove Rwanda and South Africa from the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), threatening preferential, duty-free access to the US market for thousands of products. The announcement adds another front to Washington's growing confrontation with two strategically important African countries. For Rwanda, this is déjà vu. In 2018, Trump's administration punished Kigali for refusing to abandon restrictions on imported second-hand clothes and shoes, mostly discarded by American and Western consumers and resold in African markets. Rwanda wanted to protect its emerging textile industry, encourage local manufacturing and stop its citizens from depending on clothing discarded elsewhere. Washington suspended duty-free treatment for Rwandan apparel exports, but Rwanda retained other AGOA benefits. Importantly, that apparel suspension has never been lifted. South Africa faces a different but equally revealing confrontation. Washington cites trade and investment barriers, corruption and national security concerns. Pretoria has also been at odds with Trump over its foreign policy, particularly its case against Israel at the International Court of Justice and its domestic transformation policies. Enter Elon Musk. His Starlink satellite internet company has been seeking entry into South Africa but has faced resistance over local ownership requirements, including the requirement for historically disadvantaged South Africans to hold a 30% stake in licensed telecommunications businesses. Musk has challenged these rules, while Pretoria insists that foreign companies must respect its transformation framework. This is a separate commercial dispute, not a stated reason for the AGOA decision, but it adds another dimension to the tensions. Interestingly, Kigali and Pretoria have recently resumed diplomatic relations after years of hostility, agreeing to revive bilateral cooperation and expand trade, investment and security dialogue. Both now face Trump's economic pressure, potentially creating common ground for greater diplomatic coordination. The timing is equally striking. As Washington announces the AGOA move, reports indicate that Joseph Kabila's Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN), incorporating M23, has captured Luvungi and is advancing towards Uvira. The announcement can be interpreted as another attempt to increase pressure on Kigali and influence the battlefield calculations. Whether it can deter the advance is another question; events on the ground are already moving. Beyond the stated eligibility concerns, the wider geopolitical contest involves Congo's enormous critical-mineral reserves, America's efforts to secure strategic supply chains and competing interests over regional security. For Kigali, the message remains that no trade concession or diplomatic arrangement can come at the expense of Rwanda's national security. For Pretoria, the question is whether economic sovereignty and domestic transformation can withstand growing American pressure. #FactsOnRwanda

RWANDA’S MERCY COULD AGAIN BECOME THE ONLY EXIT ROUTE FOR TRAPPED FOREIGN MERCENARIES IN EASTERN DRC Rwanda increasingly views the presence of foreign mercenaries near its borders, particularly those reportedly operating alongside the FDLR terrorist group, as a direct security threat. Kigali is reportedly growing increasingly frustrated with Washington’s continued one-sided sanctions targeting Rwanda, while Kinshasa’s partners appear reluctant to confront the armed groups and UN-prohibited mercenary operations operating on the other side. In 2025, when Goma fell to M23, Rwanda provided safe passage to trapped foreign mercenaries. Now, with the Kabila-led FRN faction reportedly advancing towards Uvira, another potential crisis is unfolding. Rwanda had persuaded M23 to withdraw from the strategic border city to give the Washington-brokered agreement a chance. However, the subsequent failure to ensure implementation has undermined the very conditions behind that withdrawal. Uvira's potential fall could consolidate FRN control along the entire DRC's eastern border with Rwanda and Burundi, further reshaping regional access routes. Notably, mercenaries, including personnel linked to Erik Prince's operations, could once again find themselves trapped, with Rwanda potentially becoming their only practical route to safety. The irony? Those operating alongside forces threatening Rwanda's security could soon eventually depend on Kigali's mercy to get out alive. #FactsOnRwanda

This is pure hypocrisy. President Tshisekedi forgot that, for several years now, he has been roaming around in Brussels and other European capitals, complaining about the "double standards" of the European Union, and calling the Western world to sanction the "Rwandan aggressor" as they sanctionned the "Russian aggressor". liberation.fr/international/… "Le président congolais demande désormais des sanctions à l’encontre de Kigali, comparant régulièrement l’«agression» du Congo par le Rwanda à l’invasion russe en Ukraine, afin de dénoncer le «deux poids, deux mesures» des chancelleries occidentales".
Incompetent Tshisekedi was attending a wrong funeral. Dragging Rwanda’s name in Moscow?

RWANDA'S CAIPTAL KIGALI INTRODUCES REAL-TIME BUS ARRIVAL BOARDS Kigali commuters can now check real-time bus arrival estimates through digital boards at bus stops, displaying expected waiting times and route information as well as plan their commuting through a dedicated app. The system is the latest in the city’s push for smarter public transport, joining sheltered bus stops with amenities such as free Wi-Fi and dedicated breastfeeding spaces, dedicated bus lanes, scheduled bus operating hours and efforts to reduce waiting times. Commuters have welcomed these improvements, with reports pointing to growing public transport use in 2026 as reliability, safety and journey predictability improve. #FactsOnRwanda

“As time goes by, as one year ends and another begins, whether we are continuing with responsibilities we already have or taking on new ones, what is most important is that we take it upon ourselves to reflect and assess how we have been doing things. How well have we carried out our responsibilities in the past? And as we take on new ones, how much more effort do we need to put in to do better? But this applies to everyone. Those taking the oath today, those who took the oath before and have other responsibilities, and even those outside government who are doing something for the country or for themselves. This is an opportunity for all of us to reflect and constantly seek ways to do better, and to do things as they should be done.” President Kagame | Swearing-in of New Senior Officials.
