"Welsh told the Health Comitte she wanted to "restate my profound and unreserved apology to the people who lived at Muckamore Abbey Hospital and who experienced abuse, neglect and at times cruelty". "I'm deeply sorry for everything that they suffered and for the lasting impact"💔
The head of the Belfast Health Trust has expressed "deep shame" over the abuse of patients at Muckamore Abbey Hospital in County Antrim.

We have launched an 'Own Initiative' investigation into how Northern Ireland's health trusts provide care to people with a learning disability.
The investigation will look at how trusts record information about a person's disability + how care plans are used to meet their needs

If violence against women and girls is truly a national emergency, then our empathy can’t come with political terms and conditions.
The brutal murder of Anne Widdecombe should be condemned without hesitation or qualification. No woman deserves violence. No family deserves anything less than compassion. Some on here, sadly predictably, have been strangely silent.
If someone’s politics determine the level of sympathy they receive, then we’ve lost sight of the very principles we’re claiming to defend.
Violence against women is always wrong. Full stop. #VAWG

Understanding the behaviour of pupils with avoidant attachment styles is crucial is educational settings.
Often your most hard to reach pupils use attachment strategies to reduce the likelihood of danger. It is critical that we work to identify & directly address danger.
So richly deserved. Well done my friend x

Honoured to receive an Honorary Doctorate in Education from @AbertayUni
This recognition belongs to Calum. His courage inspired a movement, and to every family who has fought for safer schools.

Kincora settlement :
Despite decades of public discussion concerning Kincora, Richard never before received an apology acknowledging the abuse he suffered and its devastating impact.
This settlement can’t undo the past, but it brings a measure of closure and recognition.

Helping schools in Northern Ireland to reinvent the wheel and crack the whip on CYP and families harder.
In these times. Absolutely appalling

“Tom’s job is to support school leaders and teachers to ENFORCE these [behaviour] policies”.
Yep, he’s good at “enforcing” rules/policies.
But @Education_NI needs to think again if they want evidence-based support. And Tom doesn’t do SEND, trauma, MH.

Future generations will view isolation booths in the same way we now think of corporal punishment in schools: they'll wonder how we ever thought it was ok to do this to children.
“He said: "If those allegations had been looked into, all of this would have stopped.
"He should have been removed from those positions of trust that he was in, taken out and dealt with then, and that didn't happen.”
Patrick Sharkey, school tutor who sexually abused boys more than 100 times was jailed for six and a half years in June. He worked at the Coleraine school for more than a decade after the complaints.
Our Gary Duffy represents several of the victims.

Educators were trained to see the behaviour in front of them, instead of being trained to ask”what state is their nervous system in & what made these conditions possible?”When we understand that trauma & stress are root causes to lots of behaviour safety becomes possible.

Worrying anti-reasonable adjustments noise coming out of researchED today. My advice to SEND families - if a school heeds this advice & tries to deny RA, go straight to filing a disability discrimination case in First Tier Tribunal under s20, s21 & S26 EA2010. No charge to do it

The latest buzz words in Education in
NI are ‘research’ and ‘evidence based’. Research has always played a role in ITE here. There’s also good and bad research: the former is peer-reviewed and in high impact journals, the latter includes edu-lit / books 💰 often based on hunch…

Since when was low level misbehaviour intolerable in schools and for teachers to deal with?
Did they not realise that they would be working with children & teenagers not AI robots?

Well said. Take care NI. Look at his record in England. He claims the UK was his patch but remember this is mendacious. Education in Wales and Scotland is devolved. And they don't want him there.
Why were parents and stakeholders asked to respond to the Restrictive Interventions consultation if a behaviour policy review was being commissioned? For Children with disabilities and non speaking children, behaviour policy & restrictive practice cannot be separated.
