Asking for a friend. Is it disingenuous for the @AoMRC to now be calling for a hastily organised, poorly described rapid review of a 2 decade long project that its own members drove without any prepublished plan for academic or oversight scrutiny?

Day 3 of asking.
Hello @gmcuk.
Your public consultation on your intended regulation of physician associates closed on 9 May.
Why haven’t the results been shared with the public?
Please do so.

We are clear: PA students do not study medicine, PAs are not medically trained, PAs are not medical professionals. We have approached the GMC to clarify its position.

The @gmcuk has persistently ignored, belittled & dismissed the concerns of doctors - many of them eminent leaders in their field - over the PA project.
Why on earth should this tweet reassure us - or our patients - now?
Regulation is changing. Legislation passed by the UK parliament means that we’re legally required to start regulating physician associates (PAs) and anaesthesia associates (AAs) from the end of this year.
Regulation will assure patients, colleagues and employers that PAs and AAs can work safely and be held to account if serious concerns are raised. This is the underlying purpose of regulation, for doctors, for other healthcare professionals, and will be for PAs and AAs too.
We’ve been working with a wide range of individuals and organisations representing doctors, patients, PAs, AAs, educators, supervisors and employers to shape our approach.
This is also the first in a series of steps towards future reforms, which will help us become a more effective and compassionate regulator for everyone we regulate.

So senior figures within the Royal College of Physicians presented a false picture of what its survey found. What a mess. One resignation so far...
Following the #RCPEGM on the role and regulation of physician associates (PAs), the RCP has now published the full data from its pre-EGM member survey.

These data are not so much a smoking gun as a now exploded bomb.
The lack of candour from Officers at the EGM is shocking.

Data from the pre-EGM survey. It is exactly what we feared. @RCPhysicians misrepresented the results at the EGM, the results were presented in a misleading, bizarre fashion. More resignations are needed to retain any credibility

Wow it seems somebody has uploaded the EGM meeting of @RCPhysicians on YouTube.
The public and media can see for themselves now how senior officers:
💥 refused to answer patient safety questions,
💥refused to answer what role PAs bought to MDT
💥purposefully rambled to run out time therefore suppressing genuine debate.
💥Admitted that they couldn't pause the roll out of PAs until scope of practice is defined, as they had signed contract and it would leave them financially exposed- not even a mention of patient safety
💥 refuse to acknowledge the safety concerns being raised by their members
Senior council officers of the college should resign.
They do not represent their members and they do not represent patient safety. The only things they are supporting are their own careers.
Do the right thing.
