Announcing the Zurich Simulation Hack - with @nvidia, @FlexionRobotics & Jua
Oct 10-12th in Zurich🇨🇭
We organized the Zurich @OpenAI Robotics hack last semester.
This will be more talent-dense.
We’re selecting exclusively based on exceptional research or side-projects.
We all seek meaning. But I argue that in everyday life, meaning is meaningless. I distinguish meaning from whether something matters. The following will show you the derivation of that philosophy, which is very practical and applicable to situations beyond thought experiments. I will discuss how mattering relates to values and agency and how one can attempt to quantify mattering.
Although this doesn’t make it easy to find things that matter, I still want to share my hypothesis on how to best approach that challenge.

Zurich isn’t present on the global tech-scene often. Incredible builders go under the radar. That’s changing! Our Robotic Hack with @mimicrobotics , @loki_robotics, and @OpenAI was packed with robots, talent, energy, SF-vibes, and insane projects. But there was a tough competition for the most impressive demo in ~48h.
The builders brought many robots. The startups had even more. We had robot arms everywhere, mobile robots, robot dogs, hands, … A humanoid said hi.
To judge the best robotic builders in Zurich we couldn’t just take chance. So, we got the leading professors to take a look what was cooked up over the weekend: Marc Polleyfeys (@mapo1), Prof. Marco Hutter, and Prof. Robert Katzschmann (@katzschmann)!
Still, there needs to be a winner… Although LLMs are everywhere, it’s not always the best solution. BRCKD.ai (Barnabas Gavin, Yasunori Toshimitsu, Chenyu Yang, Alexander Alderman Webb, Zeno Hamers) built an impressive system that combined generative models with solvers etc. RoboTicTacToe (Daniel Gisler, Kyo Mangold, Arturo Roberti, Boshi An, Jiwon You) was the runner-up. Their narrated game demo was super fun to watch. And their trained policy was impressive.
But never forget about the people who made all this happen! Huge thanks to
-Mimic: @elvisnavah, Matteo (and so many more in the background!!)
Loki: @arbwes, @mikshere
OpenAI: @giffmana
@arnie_hacker and @PascalBtd
@generalcatalyst (@FritziReuter)
@PrimeIntellect
This was the best hackathon Zurich has seen yet. The best people. Incredible talent density and projects. (And you don’t want to miss the next one! 👀)
Did you know there are no direct flights „Berlin - San Francisco“?
Berlin, capital of Europes biggest economy. How should I take Germany serious?
Gemini audio overview is underrated.
Put in your lecture slides and that's it. Put in slides that took 1 hr in person. 8 min as audio. And the quality is REALLY good: Both content and audio quality/narrative.
London City Airport: You can only drop your bags <2 hours before departure.
So now I am sitting before security for some hours.
Makes no sense. Usually airports want you to drop your luggage as early as possible.
Writing code for iOS sucks. Things are just incredibly complicated in SwiftUI. Why can't they make it as simple as React?

Looking through ~200 applicants for the @mimicrobotics x @loki_robotics x @OpenAI Robotics hack🇨🇭
Absolutely insane.
NASA interns, top robotics researchers, ... one team has even built a Mars Rover.
We need more mission-based startups.
Startups that are based on fundamental values.
Startups that represent our values and culture.
I don‘t want AI assistants to write my emails. period.
Its a waste of everyone‘s time to convert notes when sending/receiving.
Can’t take someone who sends me an AI mail serious. They won’t event take 1 min to think when writing me.
Won't be in Zurich sadly 😢 Never thought that there is unfortunate timing to be in SF.
If you are in Zurich: Go sign up!

You're in Zurich or its zone of influence (Lausanne, Paris, BXL, Munich, London, ...) and like AI + Robots?
We (@openai) together with @mimicrobotics, @lokirobotics, and Zurich Builds are organizing a hackathon from Fri 9 May afternoon to Sun 11.
Limited spots, more below:
Plane wifi is super impressive and annoying at the same time. When it works, it’s surreal - streaming at 10K elevation. That’s an engineering feat!
Announcing the biggest robotics hackathon in all of Europe. 🚀🤖
Happening from 9 May to 11 May in Zurich, the center for AI & Robotics🇨🇭
We’re co-organizing this with mimic, Loki Robotics and OpenAI.
You’ll have access to cutting-edge robotics manipulators, compute, API credits, and exclusive prizes.
You will be judged by world-class researchers, professors and exited entrepreneurs. Your work will be showcased globally.
Applications now open: lu.ma/3kfztofb
Spots are very limited. We’re selecting top applicants based on exceptional research and/or projects.
