The NetNewsWire experience on iPhone Duo sucks. It’s two taps to get to your list of unread articles when you open it. You’re presented with a massive blank space that should display your unread articles but instead you’ve got to tap the same button twice to get there. Did nobody try this before touting iPhone Duo support a week ago?

It seems impossible to unfold an iPhone Duo without first unintentionally locking it.

Everyone failed to point out the real problem with the iPhone Duo lacking Face ID: You can’t buy a Vision Pro with it.

Yet another reason to never pre-order (or even order at all) your device from a carrier. @Verizon screws over iPhone Duo pre-orderers. I always get mine from Apple directly. It’s simple, reliable, and doesn’t further tie you to a carrier that doesn’t care about you. - Posted from my release day iPhone Duo obtained in <1 minute in the Apple Store app on pre-order day

AirBNB had its place and time, but it’s over. Had a lovely stay at a Hyatt last night, left trash in the can, towels on the ground, and am confident my corporate overlord isn’t going to light me up with a guest review video. A professional exchange of goods for money. The AirBNB hosts did this to themselves and the platform lost control long ago.
its just bonkers the new policy @airbnb is trying to put in place. Putting the dishes in the dishwasher, taking out the trash, pulling the sheets off the bed....they are just standard things any normal person would do when staying at a house. Why wouldn't a host be allowed to say that?

Unsurprisingly @Starlink is going to partner with terrestrial networks. This is good! It means it can actually compete as a proper carrier and possibly fully replace your existing terrestrial/legacy cell carrier. What happened to all of these people claiming that we were stupid and Starlink wouldn't need towers because their new spectrum could somehow penetrate buildings reliably from space? theverge.com/science/1017477…
Very excited for @Starlink Mobile. Will clearly need to partner with someone for indoor coverage and in dense outdoor urban environments (most cities). Will be interesting to see if they partner with an existing carrier, MVNO, or become their own MVNO. Someday there may be tiny Starlink repeaters across the country that handle indoor/outdoor coverage not directly from the sky, but there is no way Starlink can handle complete coverage from space right now. Have you ever tried using GPS in Manhattan? They'll be able to solve this soon, but that day is not this day.

I’m just going to say the hard part out loud: Apple has accomplished more in getting developers to optimize their apps for the iPhone Duo before it even launched than Android has managed in seven years of foldables.

Has anyone received a shipping notification or tracking number for their iPhone Duo yet?

Some stats on #php2shell. In the 10 hours before it was publicly announced, across the @Cloudflare network we saw thousands of attempts to exploit it. That jumped to tens of thousands in the 45 minutes post announcement, hundreds of thousands within 2 hours, and millions now.

So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

Says the guy that parachuted in from his home in Mexico for a local election.
This thread is a good explainer and also why it’s so problematic to have folks who just showed up on the local scene parachuting into issues day after day. Take a minute to learn from local experts like Emily before you blog out to the world.

After a week of testing, my in-depth iPhone Duo review is officially live on @gizmodo! This is the most comprehensive review that I have written for Gizmodo. It's a real labor of love at over 7,200 words, but I hope it answers all your questions about the iPhone Duo! An all-new iPhone like this doesn't come around every year, so I went hard on this review. (Maybe too hard.) There's just so much to talk about in terms of the hardware and software My colleague @adri_or_adriano also poured his heart and soul into the product photography. This is our best work for a review yet and, dare I say, the best product photography ever published on Gizmodo, in my opinion! Pros: ✨Gorgeous nano-texture display 📖 Barely visible crease 👌 Smooth vari-angle hinge 📱Thoughtfully designed multitasking ⚡️ Powerful A20 chip 🔊 Terrific speakers 🔋 All-day battery life ✏️ Apple Pencil USB-C support Cons: 💰 Expensive 🫥 Under-display camera stinks 🪨 Heavy 🔭 No optical telephoto 🫆 Touch ID instead of Face ID Read my full review: gizmodo.com/iphone-duo-revie…

Does anyone else have to clean their house before the professional cleaners come? This pre-cleaning sucks, but the house is a wreck with two boys by the day before they come.
