Before I visited Pennsylvania, everyone warned me that Philadelphia people are the toughest, most impatient people in America. I believed them until I walked toward the front door of a Wawa gas station. I was still forty feet away in the parking lot, walking between rows of cars. A massive construction worker in steel-toe boots, carrying a twenty-four-ounce coffee in one hand and a paper-wrapped hoagie in the other, pushed open the glass door to leave. Then he saw me. He stopped. He planted his boot against the bottom of the door. And he waited. Forty feet is a very long distance when a grown man is holding a door for you in the wind. In Japan, to make a stranger wait carries great shame. So I broke into that awkward half-jog every man performs when he wishes to show gratitude without looking like he is fleeing a crime. "Go ahead, boss," he said as I passed. Ten minutes later, as I walked out with my own sandwich, I saw an elderly woman locking her car thirty feet away. I planted my foot against the glass. I held the door. Another man behind me held the inner door. Within seconds we had formed an impromptu honor guard of grumpy men holding glass doors in complete silence. Philadelphia may boo Santa Claus. But inside the three-foot radius of a Wawa doorway, they have the manners of the imperial court.

If you’re protesting and blaming *checks notes* Zohran Mamdani for the Gaza genocide you may, you just may, need to check yourself into a mental health facility.
Pro-Palestinian protesters gather outside City Hall to call out Mayor Zohran Mamdani for what they see as his betrayal of the movement. "Mayor Mamdani, you can't hide we charge you with genocide" was a chant that just rang out.

What a rotten deal we made with Iran. We get nothing (except laughter at our stupidity). They get everything, including delay and big cash!

Covid-19 vaccines, credited with saving millions of lives during the pandemic, set off a powerful alarm that rallies the human immune system against cancer and nearly doubles the median survival length of patients, according to a new retrospective study. wapo.st/4qmTVhl

It's time to Stand Up for Science! Today, I joined Stand Up for Science in their nationwide rally for scientific progress. History has shown us that the benefits of science are not always equally distributed. Women, non-binary individuals, and trans people have long been excluded from both the practice and benefits of scientific advancements. This is not just an oversight; it is a deliberate act of erasure that is still happening today. Scientific progress must reflect the needs of the people it serves, not just whoever is in the White House.

It’s literally not possible for the American colonists to defeat Britain. George Washington is a warmonger. How many more Americans have to die in this pointless war? It’s time for peace.

this isn't a joke, it actually happened
Ender’s game but it’s a HFT intern at Jane Street and at the end of his internship they all start cheering, when he asks why: “Those weren’t simulations Ender, that was real retail you front-ran and executed at marginally worse prices for private gain.”

Bitcoin is the heavenly sap of Yggdrasill. Tokens are the vile ichor that oozes from between the chitinous gaps in Ra's carapace.
