GOOD NEWS:
On July 14th, Kent Police threatened this protestor, Laura Murton, with arrest for holding a Palestinian flag and placards stating "Free Gaza" and "Israel is committing genocide".
Thousands raised the alarm, and Police Kent has now apologised.
When we act together to shine a light on injustice, we protect all our human rights.
It's clear: vague and broad laws result in unlawful policing.

Breaking: Group of women place CEO of Anglian Water under Citizen’s Arrest for one hour outside Coulsdon South Station this morning with evidence the CEO may be committing crimes of public nuisance.
When the police finally turned up they escorted Thurston away, but did not arrest him.
YES! 👏
When govt & regulators continue to allow water bosses to pollute our rivers & seas, threaten our health & hike our bills… all while receiving huge salaries & bonuses…
… the people bring justice to those responsible ✊

This is grim & dangerous over reach.
This is a government that have lost the moral argument & are still selling arms to Israel. Now further cracking down on dissent.
Absolutely the opposite of what they should be doing - so of course this is what the Labour Government choose.
NEW: Police forces will be granted new powers to put conditions on repeat protests, Shabana Mahmood says.
The new powers, to be brought in asap, will allow senior officers to consider ‘cumulative impact’ of previous protests - and move them elsewhere.
Home Secretary will also review existing legislation to ensure that powers are sufficient and being consistently applied.

Wish I could say I was shocked, but here's the Labour government constraining the right to peaceful protest again...
'You can protest but only according to our rules. The rules are: you're not allowed to use any of the tactics that make protest effective.'

Don’t arrest us then 🤷
We are causing no obstruction.
We are committing no act of violence.
We are making no noise.
We are breaching no peace.
We are using nonviolent language.
We are peacefully protesting against UK complicity in genocide.
Deal with actual terrorism.
The horrific terrorist attack that took place in Manchester yesterday will have caused significant fear and concern in communities across the UK, including here in London.
Yet at a time when we want to be deploying every available officer to ensure the safety of those communities, we are instead having to plan for a gathering of more than 1,000 people in Trafalgar Square on Saturday in support of a terrorist organisation.
By choosing to encourage mass law breaking on this scale, Defend Our Juries are drawing resources away from the communities of London at a time when they are needed most.
We urge them to do the responsible thing and delay or cancel their plans.

It's never been clearer that the proscription of Palestine Action is unsustainable and unworkable.

The police decided to arrest people with signs.

The @metpoliceuk has long been known for its sexism, racism and misogyny.
It's not new.
What perhaps is new is the refusal of some officers or staff to accept it as the norm and report it.

UPDATE: The Met Police said 890 arrests were made. 857 arrests were for showing support for Palestine Action, while 33 were arrested for other offences, including 17 for assaults on police officers.
Amnesty International deployed observers to the protest, and police claims that the protest turned violent are a misrepresentation. Our observers witnessed the Defend Our Juries protest being entirely peaceful.
Some supporters of the protest shouted insults at the police and a small number of them attempted to prevent the police from carrying arrestees away. This did not appear to be a coordinated effort.
Police officers, on a number of occasions, were aggressive towards supporters of the protest. This included violently shoving people away and pulling out batons to make space whilst protesters were arrested and hauled into police vans.
The scenes yesterday were a shocking demonstration of how the UK's overly broad terrorism laws are being used to suppress free speech.
🚨BREAKING: Hundreds arrested in Parliament Square for peaceful protest against ban of Palestine Action
When the Government is arresting people under terrorism laws for sitting peacefully in protest, something is going very wrong here in the UK.
Peaceful protest is a fundamental right. People are understandably outraged by the ongoing genocide being committed in Gaza and are entitled under international human rights law to express their horror.
Amnesty has long criticised UK terrorism law for being excessively broad, vaguely worded and a threat to freedom of expression. Today's response only further demonstrates that our concerns were justified.
Any restriction on the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly must be lawful, necessary and proportionate to achieving a legitimate aim. Criminalising speech in this context is only permitted when it incites violence or advocates hatred. Expressing support for Palestine Action does not, in itself, meet this threshold.
