Insights from the Morning Sessions — Day 2, Kenya Software & AI Summit 2025 The morning sessions of Day 2 set an engaging tone, exploring how Kenya can position itself as a leader in the age of intelligence. Ambassador Philip Thigo, MBS, Kenya’s Special Envoy on Technology, opened the day with a thought-provoking presentation on the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and AI’s role in shaping society. He highlighted both the opportunities and risks that come with emerging technologies — from potential job disruptions to the need for ethical governance, lifelong learning, and multi-sector collaboration to keep Kenya globally competitive. “Artificial Intelligence is neither artificial nor intelligent,” he remarked, challenging participants to ensure that innovation continues to serve people, not the other way around. Louis Nderi, representing Dr. Isaac Mwaura, Government Spokesperson, spoke on Kenya’s digital transformation journey, highlighting the integration of AI and software across sectors to enhance transparency, innovation, and inclusion. He noted that the government is investing in digital platforms such as E-Citizen and Huduma Namba, powered by Kenyan talent to strengthen service delivery. Louis emphasized that Kenya’s software community is a national asset, with young innovators creating impactful solutions. He concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to innovation with inclusion, technology with trust, and openness with sovereignty — guiding Kenya toward becoming a global tech producer. This was followed by an insightful plenary session led by Richard Chirchir, Director and Principal Digital Technology Specialist at Development Pathways, who explored digital skills, talent skilling, and leveraging local expertise. He underscored the urgency of nurturing Kenya’s human capital to fuel a thriving digital economy. In a keynote address, Winnie Karanu, AI Skills Director at Microsoft East Africa, shared Microsoft’s vision to train one million people in AI and digital skills by 2027 through curriculum development, credentialing, and strategic partnerships. She highlighted ongoing national initiatives such as the AI Economy Institute, AI Tools Navigator, and the Kenya AI Skilling Alliance, which are already advancing the country’s journey toward an inclusive, skilled, and innovation-driven future. Kenya is steadily establishing itself as a digital powerhouse, with growing capacity across government, academia, and industry to drive the next wave of intelligent transformation. #KenyaSoftwareSummit2025 #ICTAuthority #DigitalEconomy
