Welcome to Rida, Eileen, and Zi, new PhD students in our lab and to Irina and Khadija, our undergrad thesis students! Big expansion of our lab this year 💪👩🔬
Congratulations to current student @ScientistAnjo and alumnus @josephtychoy for both being awarded NSERC PGS-D this year! 🎉
Congratulations to Lucy Luo (co-PI: Dr. Sowmya Viswanathan) on defending her MASc thesis on investigating the effects of collagen mineralization on osteoblast differentiation! Good luck on your new MD/PhD adventures at Northwestern!
Looking closely at the sharp interface between mineralized/unmineralized collagen at the site of tooth attachment, we found that GAGs promote mineralization in dental tissues rather than inhibit it in the ligament! Read more below:
A research team led by Dr. Eli Sone have discovered a new role in mineralization played by a class of molecules, glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). Instead of ‘switching’ off mineral formation, the GAGs promote the mineralization process. uoft.me/5VM
