ICYMI, here’s a small clip of a very big day at the ESTEC Open Day 2024 in the Netherlands. Truly an inspirational event. Watch the full video here: youtu.be/3OAzIDF0qWM

We're still dusting ourselves off after a marvelous day at the ESTEC Open Day 2024 in the Netherlands. We don't have to tell anyone who attended what a special thing the Open Day is and we bet you'll feel as emotional as us revisiting these memories here: youtu.be/3OAzIDF0qWM

🎶How does it keep getting better?🎵
🌞☄️@MissionSoho keeps delivering, with epic shots of Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) as the Sun rages on in the background
📹ESA/NASA SOHO (coronagraph) & NASA SDO (Sun)
😮
The sun goes burp and the atmosphere turns red. Spectacular not only from Earth but from orbit as well. This event caught both @dominickmatthew and I off guard. Aurora had been just so-so; we were out of energy at the end of a long day and reluctant to once again set up our cameras up for yet another “No Show”. We were just heading to some much needed sleep when we made the mistake of peeking out the Cupola windows.
Stunning was the word.
It looked like @Space_Station had been shrunk to some miniature dimension and inserted into a neon sign. We were not flying 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘷𝘦 the aurora; we were flying 𝘪𝘯 the aurora. And it was blood red. Caught off guard, we hastily set up our cameras, four of them, all snapping shutters as fast as they could, creating a syncopated rhythm that accented Nature’s artistic display presented before us.
Here is one of the shots.
Nikon Z9, Nikon 24mm f1.4 lens, 1/5 second, f1.4, ISO 3200, adjusted in Photoshop (noise reduction, color, contrast).

ALT Two shadowy space capsules, complete with all sorts of equipment attached to them, dominate the foreground. The background is a colorful spacescape, Earth curving across the bottom with green hues of the aurora dancing across the planet’s surface. Further up, deep red hues shoot out into space before fading to black.

This was hands down the funnest 🧪science🔭 panel I've ever done, getting to nerd out about the science of my fav sci-fi show @ExpanseOnPrime with one of its main actors (who should totally have a "nice off" with Keanu)!! Thx also to @TheExpanseGeeks for the cool swag! 🚀🙏
That’ll be the @ProfSeraMarkoff — a member of the @ehtelescope team that produced the first image of a black hole — getting Steven Strait to sign her Rocinante.
We approve!

Comet C/2023 A3’s brightness is ‘off the charts’ today, partially saturating @MissionSoho’s detectors! 😎
✨Those sparkles in the image are solar energetic particles, as the Sun is still bursting with activity

First time in history you can follow a mission through AI version of the spacecraft using real images, telemetry and much more. It will blow your mind !
Want to know more about #HeraMission? Why not ask it, using the new AI Hera Space Companion! For now the AI's data & information comes ‘from ground’. Later, real-time telemetry & onboard data will be integrated 👉hera.space

🔴 Live now: coverage has started for the launch of ESA's #HeraMission👇 xitter.cf/i/broadcasts/1yoKMyDRL…

Captain James Holden himself - Steven Strait of The Expanse😃 on the stage of @spacerockslive. He recently completed ESA's parabolic flight training programme. It was a great interview about life in 'zero-g' and the science of The Expanse.
And it's nice to have an autograph.

A better update will come, once I’m less annoyed about missing our Eurostar connection *again* 🫠😅
What a day! It has been SUCH a privilege to meet so many wonderful people both on and off the stage.
We’ll have a full wrap up soon so watch this space 👀
