NEW: President Trump lashes out at a CNN reporter while defending his decision to delay sanctions against Russia during negotiations to free American Stephen Hubbard: "You don't know what you're talking about. You're a dummy, you're a low IQ person." Trump argues that imposing sanctions during the negotiations would have immediately jeopardized Hubbard's release. "So use your head," he tells the reporter.

Most investors start with "which stocks should I own?" Our Business Cycle Fund starts a step earlier: which sectors, and when? The sector decides most of what a stock can do. A good company in the wrong phase of its cycle struggles, while an average one in the right phase rides the tide. Within a sector, timing is the whole game. Here's how that shows up in the fund's current positioning: → Cement: production is growing, government infrastructure spend sets a floor, and margins sit closer to a trough than a peak. Early in the cycle. → Financials: credit growth is healthy, yet several lenders still trade below their long-period valuation averages. Not yet priced in. → Metals: steel faces structural Chinese overcapacity, aluminium is near its highs, and fresh iron ore supply is on the way. Late in the cycle. One question, asked in each industry's own cycle: where are we, and is the evidence improving or fading? That's how the fund holds 24 of 51 Nifty 500 industries, with a deliberate zero in five. See the full sector-by-sector cycle read in the Business Cycle Fund presentation: tinyurl.com/perk2typ @KalpenParekh @ManishRathiDSP

“[The Europeans] have gone so far as to label us their enemies—the future destroyers of European civilization.” - Dostoyevsky (Diaries, January 1877) The more things change, the more they stay the same. Full quote from the clip: “We adopted European tastes—we even ate all sorts of nasty things, trying not to wince—as if to say, ‘Look at me, what a true Englishman I am; I can’t eat a thing without cayenne pepper!’ Do you think I’m joking? Not at all.” [….] “We could never quite explain to them that we didn’t want to be simply Russians, but rather ‘universal human beings.’ Lately, however, they’ve begun to grasp something. They’ve realized that we are after something—something they find frightening and dangerous. They’ve realized that there are a great many of us—eighty million—and that while we know and understand all European ideas, they know nothing of our Russian ideas, and even if they were to learn of them, they wouldn’t understand them. They’ve realized that we speak all their languages, while they speak only their own—and they’ve begun to suspect and comprehend a great deal more. In the end, they’ve gone so far as to label us their enemies—the future destroyers of European civilization. That is how they have interpreted our passionate goal to become ‘universal human beings’!”

🇺🇸🇷🇺 Trump holds off on new Russia sanctions as Ukraine talks advance 💬 “When you’re close to a deal and you have very delicate negotiations, you don’t put sanctions on,” US President Donald Trump said.
🇺🇸 Trump avoids escalation with Russia to secure Hubbard release 💬 “If we did what these foolish people wanted me to do, he wouldn’t be coming out right now. He’d be in there for another 20 years,” US President Donald Trump said, rejecting calls for harsh steps against Russia. 💬 “The last thing I want to do is upset an apple cart, where we’re getting close to settling a war,” Trump said. Hubbard was previously convicted in Russia after joining Ukrainian troops and fighting against Russian forces. President Vladimir Putin later approved his release on humanitarian grounds following repeated requests from the US side.

Police personnel bulwark our nation's growth and ensure that our young generation gets a better India and a brighter tomorrow. Their Himalayan resolve erased Naxalism, crushed terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, and liberated the Northeast from the clutches of insurgency. Today, they are poised to dismantle narcotics cartels, pursuing Modi Ji's vision of a drug-free India. Laid a wreath at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day.

The British aristocracy was crushed by the Great War, which bled it white. But the British landed gentry, always a bit more reactionary, was destroyed by free trade and death taxes, decimated before the war even began, just as intended by the Whigs and Liberals. As Nicolson writes in The Gentry: "Half of the families in the 1863 Burke's Landed Gentry did not appear in the 1914 edition. By the 1920s, so many of the old gentry families had lost their lands that the ownership of land was no longer a requirement for a family to appear in the book at all. Between 1880 and 1980, over half of those who had owned between 3,000 and 10,000 acres went out of land entirely. For those with less than 3,000 acres, the rate of attrition was more like 80 per cent.' Although the question of definition is as difficult as ever, at the end of the twentieth century less than 1 per cent of England belonged to the gentry, perhaps 500 families owning 1,000 acres each. "The triple shock of the agricultural depression, death duties and the ebbing of self-confidence had all dealt them a blow far worse than anything they had experienced before. Death duties were first raised on land in 1894 at a rate equivalent to two years' net income. This was about the same as the fines imposed on the Royalist estates by the Parliamentary committees in the 1640s, but the atrocious returns from agriculture and the much better income available from industrial investments or government bonds made the burden more difficult to bear. The Finance Act of 1919 raised that tax from 12 per cent to 20 per cent, a level which encouraged many families to leave land entirely. Between 1918 and 1927, six to eight million acres, including at least 25 per cent of Britain's farmland, changed hands. Land was no longer the ultimate valuable. In 1880, it was estimated that the estate of the Marquess of Camden, which yielded £1,700 after all expenses had been paid, would sell for £190,000. If that capital sum were invested in government bonds it would yield £5,700 a year."
