‘The scale of the government’s draconian bandobast to thwart Jantar Mantar 2.0 is a teach-in that demonstrates to ‘mainstream’ middle-class India how nominal the rights of Indian citizens are when the State chooses to override them.’

On this day in 1967, Argentine revolutionary Che Guevara was executed on the orders of the CIA after he had been captured by the Bolivian Army. When Mario Terán, the soldier who would execute him, entered the room, Guevara reportedly said “I know you’ve come to kill me. Shoot, coward! You are only going to kill a man.” In death, Che Guevara would become the iconic symbol of revolutionary martyrdom; giving up his own life with no fear, for the cause of fighting oppression and liberating others.  As a young medical student, he traveled across Latin America on his motorbike and was appalled by the sheer amount of disease, hunger, and poverty across the continent.  He began to view Latin America as dominated and exploited by US capitalism, a belief that hardened after the CIA orchestrated the coup against Guatemala’s President Jacobo Arbenz, destroying much of the reforms he had implemented.  In Mexico City, he met two brothers who shared his ideas; Fidel and Raul Castro. From that moment he joined the 26th of July Movement and became instrumental in the success of the Cuban Revolution and the destruction of the US-backed Batista dictatorship.  In Cuba’s government, he spearheaded a successful and rapid literacy campaign, enacted land reform to distribute land from bourgeois land owners to Cuban peasants, and played a key role in defeating the CIA’s Bay of Pigs Invasion.  After succeeding in Cuba, Guevara left Cuba to assist revolutionary struggles abroad. He would be captured by CIA-backed Bolivian forces. Murals, paintings and pictures of Che Guevara can be found all over the world in the poorest areas. 59 years after his death, Che remains a global symbol of hope, resistance, and fighting oppression. ¡Hasta la victoria siempre!

Thinking about what @IJaising said a couple of days ago…. It is not an undeclared emergency. It is a state of affairs as if the Constitution doesn’t exist.
The Constitutional Courts are repeatedly found wanting in enforcement of the Constitution.

Very impressed by the courage of the Nalsar students. It’s not easy to do this, not only because of external threats, but even more because this is a profession where that constantly pressurises people to maintain conformity and defer to authority. etvbharat.com/amp/en/state/n…

You can say what you want about Iran but they're definitely pretty unique in their communication: never seen a country threaten another with a math equation before 😅 For those who didn't get it: there is a famous monetary policy formula used by the Fed called the "Taylor rule" that says a central bank's policy rate (i) should equal the neutral real rate (r*) plus target inflation (π*), plus 1.5 times the inflation gap and 0.5 times the output gap (the "i = r* + π* + 1.5(π−π*) + 0.5(y−y*)" part of Ghalibaf's formula). Ghalibaf adds α(SOH−SOH*) and β(BEM−BEM*): SOH referring to the Strait Of Hormuz and BEM to Bab El-Mandeb. Both have positive coefficient, meaning the more those chokepoints are choked, the higher the rate the Fed would have to set to fight the resulting inflation. In a nutshell this is Ghalibaf trolling the Fed, telling them that Iran is - in a very real way - setting American monetary policy.
Straits Taylor Rule: i = r* + π* + 1.5(π−π*) + 0.5(y−y*) + α(SOH−SOH*) + β(BEM−BEM*), α,β > 0 Let’s see if a hike could open SOH or produce a single barrel :) You can’t 25bp a chokepoint and r* isn’t neutral. It’s SOH risk premium, and We set it. Stay unanchored !

I have lost faith in Safdarjung Government Hospital. The hospital told us @Wangchuk66’s potassium had dropped to 2.9, describing it as alarming and life-threatening. Yet, in its public health bulletin, it conveniently omitted the actual number, referring only to "decreasing potassium levels." When after 10 hours and repeated requests, they allowed us to take samples of his blood at 10.30 pm, an independent laboratory test reported 3.5, well within the normal range. Despite repeated requests, the hospital has refused to discharge him or allow us to shift him to a private hospital of our choice. With around 30 police personnel stationed on our floor and well over 100 across the hospital, our movement is severely restricted. It is not medical care. It is illegal detention. If anything happens to Sonam, the hospital authorities and the government must bear full responsibility. I have therefore moved the High Court and sought an urgent hearing today, praying for permission to shift Sonam before his health deteriorates further. No family should have to fight the system simply to choose where their loved one receives medical care.

The US Navy attacked a third ship with Indian crew even after the MEA had summoned the US CdA in Delhi and conveyed its concern over the killings. Tells you of how seriously the US takes Indian concerns and how ineffective the Modi govt is, with such gestures.

Seemingly, we are overqualified for this. They didn’t understand our references to Jane Austen, Harold Pinter, Franz Kafka, Walt Whitman, René Magritte, etc. But our martyred leader has taught us to read books all the time; we do not lower our standards. They need to level up.
Iran’s diplomat makes a Jane Austen reference. White British male newscaster does not get it. SO much of contemporary British cultural hubris and ignorance (even of themselves) encapsulated in this clip.
