PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN SHOULDN’T REQUIRE A COURT ORDER!
Florida’s Attorney General is asking a court to force Meta to implement stronger protections for children using Facebook and Instagram, including age restrictions, limits on screen time, and changes to features that keep kids endlessly engaged.
And my question is simple: Why does it take a lawsuit to get these companies to put children’s safety first?
Since losing my 16-year-old son Daniel to a counterfeit pill purchased through Snapchat in 2020, I have spent years fighting alongside other parents to hold social media companies accountable.
We have heard enough about their wonderful safety features while criminals continue exploiting these platforms to reach our children.
These companies have extraordinary technology. They know what our kids watch, what interests them, and how to keep them glued to their screens.
So why can’t they use that same technology to do more to identify drug dealers, predators, and other criminals before another child is harmed?
Parents have responsibilities. So do schools, law enforcement, and government.
But so do the multibillion-dollar corporations profiting from our children’s attention.
This isn’t about politics. It’s about protecting kids.
At V.O.I.D., we will continue demanding accountability, meaningful safeguards, and prevention—not just apologies after another tragedy.
Our children deserve better. And the families who have already lost theirs deserve answers.

🤖 Made with AI
Our visit to Washington, D.C., was a fruitful and emotional one for V.O.I.D.
On Thursday afternoon, we attended the Attorney General’s Summit on Victims of Violent Crime. The Angel Moms’ testimony was gripping. Hearing them share their stories reminded us why it matters to keep showing up for families.
We left a little early to meet with DEA Administrator Terry Cole and his staff. It was a pleasure to give him a copy of Benjamin Westhoff’s new book, “Lives Interrupted: The Fentanyl Tragedy”. We also got to catch up with our dear friends Sean Ferns and Kevin Collins and spoke about Advocacy and shared interests where our Foundation could collaborate with the DEA.
We ended the day at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund for the official launch of Lives Interrupted, hosted by Pax Sapiens and V.O.I.D., “Victims Of Illicit Drugs”. We’re grateful to DEA Deputy Administrator Dan Slater for speaking at the launch, and to Mathew Brodman for his tireless advocacy. Having Andrea Thomas and Kamal Bherwani alongside us made an already momentous day even more meaningful.
Thank you to everyone who welcomed us and helped bring these conversations together. We came home grateful for the friendships, the work being done, and the chance to keep the voices of these families heard.

The latest report from the National Drug Early Warning System should concern every parent, educator and public-health professional.
NDEWS recorded 16,335 suspected nonfatal overdose-related EMS encounters involving MDMA, commonly sold as Ecstasy or Molly, between January 1, 2023, and June 30, 2026.
More than half occurred in Southern states:
• South: 8,955
• West: 2,705
• Midwest: 2,557
• Northeast: 2,118
But the numbers tell only part of the story.
NDEWS is also warning about counterfeit products, drugs sold as MDMA being mixed with other substances, and the possibility of illicit fentanyl appearing in this unpredictable supply.
As a father who lost my 16-year-old son Daniel to a counterfeit pill, I cannot say this strongly enough: you cannot trust the appearance, color, shape or name of an illicit pill. What someone believes is Molly or Ecstasy may contain something entirely different, and one pill can be enough to cause irreversible harm or even death.
We must keep educating young people with honest, current information. The illicit drug supply continues to change, and our prevention efforts must change with it.

If you think that the CCP doesn’t know that this happening, you’re in for a rude awakening.
NEW!🚨 😳 Chinese Fentanyl businesses are now rebranding themselves as peptide providers.
A new investigation reveals that fentanyl companies are now selling peptides that not up to standard as millions of Americans are now just injecting themselves with peptides they have no idea where they came from.
We need MAHA on this case ASAP!
We can’t thank you enough for always being in the forefront of this crisis, Derek! I just wish more people would have listened to your warnings!

.@XavierBecerra lied when he said he didn't lose track of 85K migrant children. In fact, he forced out of HHS the employees who rightly warned against lowering standards on vetting sponsors, resulting in many of those children being trafficked.
This National Police Week, we pause to honor the brave men and women in law enforcement who put on the badge every single day knowing the risks that come with it.
At V.O.I.D., we have had the privilege of standing shoulder to shoulder with so many incredible officers, agents, deputies, investigators, and first responders across this nation; people who have dedicated their lives to protecting others and saving lives. We have seen firsthand the compassion they carry, the sacrifices they make, and the emotional weight they often bear in silence.
We especially remember those who gave their lives in service to our communities and our country. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
To all of our law enforcement heroes; thank you for your service, your humanity, and your unwavering commitment to protecting our families and communities. We stand with you this week and always. 🇺🇸

Today would have been Zachary Didier’s 23rd birthday.
Instead, his family is left celebrating his life in the quiet, painful way that too many of us know all too well.
Zachary should be here. He should be laughing with his friends, chasing his goals, living the life that was taken from him far too soon. But he isn’t; and the truth of why matters.
Zachary didn’t go looking for a drug dealer in some dark alley.
He was a young man living in a digital world. A world where platforms like Snap Chat push content, connect strangers, and too often, open the door to something deadly.
Through algorithms designed to keep users engaged, drug-related content found its way to Zachary. And through that same platform, he was connected to a dealer.
That connection led to a meeting at the Rocklin Shopping Center; a place that should represent everyday life, not the last moments of a young man’s.
What Zachary was sold was not what he thought. He was told that Percocet would enhance his work-outs by taking away the pain that would follow afterwards, but instead was sold a
a counterfeit pill. A fake Percocet, made with illicit fentanyl, binder and filler and it took his life.
One pill. One decision shaped by a system that should have protected him. One life gone. I've said it time and again, "Our children are supposed to learn from their mistakes; not, die from them."
This is not just about Zachary. This is about a system that continues to fail our children.
At V.O.I.D., we see it over and over again. Young lives intersecting with dealers not on street corners, but through apps like Snap Chat. Through algorithms. Through platforms that have become pipelines from traffickers to your adolescent child, and the new go to platform for drug trafficking, cyber bullying, sextortion and all sorts of insidious unlawful activity exposing our children to all sorts of deadly harms.
Today, on his Heavenly 23rd birthday, we remember Zachary not just for how he died, but for who he was, and for the life he should still be living. And we say his name with purpose.
Because behind every statistic is a son. A friend. A future that mattered.
Happy Heavenly Birthday, Zachary. Thank you for helping us open doors that would otherwise remain shut. You, Daniel, Jessica and so many others, should be here celebrating your Birthdays as well, which is why we at V.O.I.D., will not stop educating and raising awareness in communities nationwide; as well as advocating for laws that will hold those responsible, for committing such atrocities on our children.

Victims of Illicit Drugs (V.O.I.D.) is honored to be listed among the organizations supporting the Combating Illicit Xylazine Act ahead of this week’s Senate Judiciary Committee vote.
Many people are only now beginning to hear about xylazine, commonly known on the street as “tranq.” Drug traffickers are increasingly mixing it with illicit fentanyl because it is cheap, it extends the high, and it makes users even more dependent. In simple terms, it allows traffickers to maximize profit while human lives become even more disposable.
Families who have lost children know exactly what happens when traffickers begin experimenting with new chemicals in the illicit drug supply. We have already seen the devastation that followed when illicit fentanyl flooded our communities. We cannot afford to ignore the next dangerous trend.
This bill simply gives law enforcement the tools needed to stop traffickers who are deliberately adding yet another toxic substance into an already deadly drug supply, while still protecting legitimate veterinary use.
On Thursday morning, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a mark-up on this bill. If you are a parent, family member, or supporter who has been affected by this crisis, your voice matters. Showing support for legislation like this helps ensure that lawmakers understand the urgency of stopping the spread of these deadly mixtures before more families suffer unimaginable loss.
The cartels are constantly adapting. We must be willing to do the same.

THIS DIDN’T HAPPEN IN A VACUUM
Let’s be real about something a lot of people are uncomfortable saying out loud.
This decisive action against the CJNG leadership did not happen in a vacuum. The Trump Administration made it very clear that the United States had reached a breaking point with the poison pouring across our border. The message to Mexico’s leadership was simple: either take control of these criminal organizations that are poisoning our children, or the United States will take steps to protect its people.
That kind of pressure makes people uneasy. We know there are plenty of voices here in the U.S. who are angry about the idea of a U.S. President forcing accountability beyond our borders. They’ll call it heavy-handed. They’ll argue about optics and diplomacy.
But here’s the hard truth: if you haven’t buried a child because of illicit fentanyl, if you haven’t stood in a funeral home picking out a casket for your kid, if you don’t wake up every day with a hole in your chest where your child should be — then this is theoretical for you. For us, it’s not politics. It’s personal.
Let’s not forget who these cartels really are. These ruthless organizations don’t just poison Americans — they murder, disappear, and terrorize their own people. Innocent citizens of Mexico, who have nothing to do with these narco-terrorists, have been extorted, kidnapped, silenced, and slaughtered. Entire communities have lived under fear. Tonight, many of those families may sleep a little easier knowing one of the most violent men behind that terror is gone.
We don’t celebrate death. But we do acknowledge accountability. We acknowledge that when pressure is applied, action can follow. And we acknowledge that leadership matters when lives are on the line.
This is not about left vs. right.
This is about parents vs. poison.
This is about families vs. cartels.
For the children we’ve lost — and for the innocent people in Mexico who have suffered under cartel terror — half measures are no longer acceptable.

"Snap unequivocally condemns the criminal conduct of the drug dealers whose actions led to these tragedies. Addressing the fentanyl crisis demands a united front, bringing together law enforcement, government officials, medical professionals, parents, educators, tech companies, and advocacy organizations. We have long recognized the urgency of this issue and have devoted substantial resources to combating illegal activity on our platform, including decisive action against drug dealers."
@evanspiegel Do you have any idea just how idiotic and gross your canned statements are to the media and society as a whole when responding to the media when they find out about another child has died due to fentanyl poisoning because your app facilitated the connection of the dealer to that child through the “Quick Add” feature?

San Francisco is canceling it's free booze for the homeless program. This is the power of advocacy. Now, let's spend that $5 million per year on drug treatment instead. You're welcome. @SteveAdami @nypost @DanielLurie

For V.O.I.D., sitting down with the leadership of the DEA isn’t just about meetings or policy—it’s about people, trust, and doing this work the right way. When those who enforce the law take the time to listen to families who have lived this nightmare, something powerful happens. That connection matters, because it’s where real understanding and real change begin.
We spoke honestly about the role nonprofits play alongside the DEA, especially family-led organizations. Families who step into this space are carrying the weight of their child’s absence with them every single day. They don’t come here for recognition or influence—they come because they never want another family to get that phone call. That's it! Nothing more, nothing less. That’s why vetting who enters this space is so important. It not only protects our credibility, but theirs as well. This work is deeply personal. It must be protected with integrity, transparency, and accountability, because when the mission is compromised, families are the ones who get hurt all over again, and it makes the mission at hand, that much harder to attain.
We also talked about how more family nonprofits can be welcomed into the "Fentanyl Free America" campaign. Families belong here. Their voices keep this work grounded, honest, and urgent. They remind everyone involved that behind every policy discussion is a son or daughter who should still be here, and a family learning how to breathe through unimaginable loss. There are many who would like to become advocates but don't know how. I had suggested that they already had a "Citizen's Academy"; why not, have an academy for affected families that wanted to go into advocacy but didn't know how to go about it? "Fentanyl Free Communities" needs as many voices as needed and these affected families can be the tip of the spear.
Last but not least, V.O.I.D. invited Mr. Thomas Wolf, who is a Drug Policy Expert, to a meeting that we had set up with the Executive White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, and Jill Cichowicz, where we met Mr. Victor Avila, Director, OELA
Office of External and Legislative Affairs
Office of National Drug Control Policy, Dr. Roneet Lev, Chief Medical Officer at the ONDCP and my old friend, Kemp Chester who is the Assistant Director Of Public Health. This meeting was probably the most fruitful meeting I have ever had at the ONDCP and it is definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity, to be the most consequential and transformative ONDCP in history. Tom is brilliant and spoke of his lived experience and what that translated to policy wise on the streets of San Francisco. We came prepared for the meeting with many asks and recommendations. Hopefully soon, what we spoke of will become a reality, but if anyone can make it happen, this team at ONDCP can. I have full confidence that they will.
These are the moments that reaffirm why V.O.I.D. continues this work. Because when leadership leads with humanity, when partnerships are built on trust, and when families are honored and protected, we move closer to the day when fewer parents have to learn what this kind of loss feels like.

Thank you @VictorAvilaTX and @roneetlev for taking the meeting with us today. We left very encouraged and hopeful that this Administration is going to be transformational in their drug policy where prevention and recovery takes its rightful place; instead of, the radical harm reduction that was just enabling the death of so many in our country.
Great meeting in Washington DC with the @ONDCP to talk national drug strategy. I'm grateful they are prioritizing recovery and prevention along with enforcement as solutions to the ongoing drug crisis in the United States. Thank you! @VP @SecKennedy @stoptheVOID
