Iâve heard this from fans and weâve heard this from his camp. Itâs an argument that persists without a single example of Ovechkin being anything other than an enthusiastic Putin supporter.
When Ovechkin started PutinTeam in 2017, three years into the invasion of Ukraine, anonymous Caps sources tried to give Ovi some cover and told the Post he was enlisted to do so by the government. Ovechkin corrected them and said it was actually his idea.
His Instagram profile picture is him and Putin. He posted a hashtag suggesting the invasion of Ukraine was about saving children. Heâs in an ad standing with a woman wanted by the ICC for kidnapping Ukrainian children (by her own admission). He married the daughter of a Russian businessman connected to the Russian defense industry and multiple U.S.-sanctioned companies.
The Russian celebrities he parties and vacations with according to IG posts arenât the ones who spoke against the regime and faced consequences, or even the ones who stayed silent â theyâre among Putinâs most ardent supporters. They describe Ukrainians as Nazis (Jasmine), describe the war as âa just causeâ (Artem Dzyuba) and perform at Putinâs rallies (Sergei Zhukov).
Ovechkinâs own GM was confident enough about Ovechkin having a choice in participating in the campaign video to say that if Ovechkin had told them he planned to do the ad, âI doubt we'd be standing where we're standing right now if he had run it by us.â
Now, if you ask me why journalists are making the same argument Ovechkinâs camp has made for the last dozen years â without evidence and without, in at least one instance, agreement from Ovechkin himself â I havenât the slightest clue.

I reached out to the Oilers for a statement, and they responded by saying the flag wasn't the issue.

To everyone so eager to cancel someone for a tattoo they got at age 22, a drunk text, a selfie they took in the middle of a mental health crisis:
Show us your laptop.
Show us your iCloud.
Open your entire digital life to your worst enemy. No context. No filter. No explanation.
You wonât.
You wonât because you know what I know. Any one of us, frozen at our worst moment, photographed in our lowest hour, looks like a monster. Looks like a stranger. Looks like someone who deserves to be cast out.
That is not who we are.
My mom and baby sister were killed in a car accident when I was just a kid. Cancer took my brother Beau, my best friend and my rock. I battled alcoholism. I battled addiction. I chose the cowardâs way out more times than I can count.
For years I believed the defining chapters of my life were written by tragedy, loss, and shame.
I no longer believe that.
Pain can shape us. Loss can humble us. Failures can leave scars that never fully fade. But none of them have the authority to define us.
And it sure as hell ainât the critic that counts.
That authority belongs to us alone-the person in the arena.
Every setback presents a choice. Play the victim, or cut the bullshit and take ownership for who we become next.
Life does not determine our character. It reveals it.
Again and again we are asked the same question. When shit happens, what next?
We are not defined by what happened to us. We are not defined by the worst photo, the worst text, the worst tattoo, the worst night. We are defined by the person we choose to become. And by the courage to choose that person, every single day.
So before you reach for the gavel - show us your laptop.
You wonât.
The whole world saw mine. And I am still here. Still becoming. Still choosing. Still standing.
That is the only definition that matters.

The numbers in this graphic are misleading. The east-west averages are skewed by P.E.I. The four Western provinces average one federal riding for every 108,687 people (based on 2021 census). That's better than Ontario (116k per seat) and almost bang on Quebec (109k).

Ruhe in Frieden Juha Miettinen
18.01.1960 - 18.04.2026

Artemis II just proved it again - humans can leave Earth, travel to the Moon, and come home safely, and it was incredible to watch.
Iâm genuinely glad to see the crew back home safe. Most of us followed the mission, watched the photos come in, and felt a real sense of pride seeing four astronauts travel around the Moon and return to Earth. This is exactly what Artemis is meant to do - test the system, prove it works, and prepare the way for putting boots back on the lunar surface.
And yes, back on the Moon.
Six Apollo missions landed twelve men on the Moon. That isnât a theory. It isnât up for debate. Itâs an objective fact - an epic achievement for all humanity, and a point of pride for the United States and the world of science and engineering. And it doesnât need approval from comment sections.
Scroll through any Artemis post and youâll see it - the same flood of disgusting denial thatâs been recycled for decades.
Moon landing deniers.
Flat Earthers.
Zombie conspiracies.
Same script. Same claims. Same refusal to engage with reality.
Thereâs no real exchange happening because that would require a willingness to process evidence. Instead, itâs preloaded conclusions looking for support. NASA âlies,â space is âfake,â rockets âcanât leave,â the Moon is a âlight under a dome.â The Van Allen belts are framed as an unavoidable death barrier. Speeds and temperatures get thrown around like big numbers are supposed to be frightening instead of understood.
None of it holds up. Every bit of it has been answered - with physics, data, direct observation, engineering, and missions from multiple countries. Repeatedly. For decades. Theyâve heard it. They ignore it. And then they come right back with the exact same script.
Like zombies. âBraaaainsâŚâ
So when you see replies that are short, sharp, even insulting, itâs pattern recognition. The answers have already been given. Nothing changes.
What weâre dealing with isnât skepticism. Itâs conspiracy addiction. These are conspiracy addicts repeating a script they didnât write, defending conclusions they never tested, and rejecting evidence they never seriously considered.
For some, it comes from a misinterpretation of religious texts. For others, itâs a generalized distrust of science and authority. And for others, thereâs no softer way to put it - itâs willful ignorance, combined with a refusal to engage with the evidence in front of them.
And, worst, they lie. They Gotta Lie To Deny.
If someone actually brings something new - something original, something that hasnât already been dismantled a hundred times over - Iâll engage. Gladly. Iâll even applaud it.
But that never happens.
What shows up instead is the same recycled denial, dressed up as skepticism, repeated endlessly by people who decided the answer first and are now working backwards to justify it.
And after watching this mission unfold, anyone who thought these groups were fringe or fading just got a very clear reminder:
Theyâre still here.
Theyâre still loud.
And theyâre still saying the exact same things they were saying 20, 30, 50 years ago.
Artemis didnât just test hardware.
It exposed, once again, just how persistent these zombie conspiracies are - and how resistant some people can be to reality.
May those who deny perish, as those who seek to advance move forward with our next steps back into human space travel.

Of course contrails exist. And you see them more due to a 400% increase in air traffic since the 70s for starters. Added to that, low flying turboprops being replaced by turbojets that now fly higher causing a more dense route structure which when the right conditions are presentâŚproduces more contrails.
But the Internet loves a good conspiracy, so letâs jet pretend itâs poison instead and blame it on some elite cabal to feed outrage, feel enlightened and scoop up clicks for engagement.
We can mistrust the government and mediaâŚbut letâs try not to swallow everything from strangers on the Internet as a blind alternative.đđź

Dear @VoiceOfFranky,
The reason you donât wake up each night wondering what Iran is going to do to threaten the planet is because you have been sheltered your entire life by the safety net that the US has created around North America.
I can assure you that the people of the Middle East, like Israel for example, regularly wake with existential dread of what Iran is up to. Especially considering the regimeâs primary focus of genociding them off the face of the earth and supporting every terrorist proxy they could to undermine our way of life.

If Canada bought Gripens, then we would have an aircraft that could actually land at Alert airfield.
16 miles from Greenland.
F-35's can't do that and have abysmal air readiness with Full Mission Capable rates between 29-35%
Gripens are above 90% FMC and are arctic defenders.
