Statement on Unite General Secretary Election – Simon Dubbins The General Secretary election is now over, and Sharon Graham has achieved a clear victory. It is time for the union to move forward and focus on delivering for its members. I want to record my sincere thanks to all of those who took part in the democratic process in an open, fair, and honest way, and who respected that our members, reps, activists, officers, staff and organisers, all have a right to hold and express different opinions about the best way forward for our union. If our union is to work at its best for our members it is vitally important that we show respect for each other and seek to maximise our unity and strength to face the many difficult challenges that lay ahead. Protecting jobs and pay, and fighting climate change and the rise of the far right will require all our collective strength. On a personal note I want to say a special thanks to all of those who helped to build our magnificent campaign. It was the honour and privilege of my life to work with all of you and your dedication and commitment to our union is second to none.
