During today’s #WorldDiabetesDay event at the EP, @EP_President @SchaldemoseMEP @AndrasKulja gave powerful opening speeches and were united in their call for political will and leadership to tackle diabetes.
Anamarija Runtic and Erik Werson gave a strong testimony of what it means to live with diabetes 24/7. Apart from a few contacts with HCPs, they are mostly alone and sometimes feel very alone. They called for harnessing the full potential of digitally supported care and ensuring that people receive educational and mental health support.
The HCP panel with Luk Buyse, @sugarydoc and Valerie Luyckx mentioned the
importance of early detection and screening and the need for a multidisciplinary approach.

Dr Hussain is a London based, UKRI funded clinician-scientist working in one of UK’s largest and leading diabetes services. He has a specialist interest in the implementation of novel therapies and technologies, including open-source, user-owned data systems, hybrid-closed loops and cell therapy. As someone with over 30 years lived experience with type 1 diabetes, he combines his personal and professional experience to deliver a unique focus on person-centred holistic care for people with diabetes.
