It is an anxious time - for many reasons. But I know in my heart of hearts that we have to get our students back in front of our teachers! Let’s do this!
P.S. If you’re eligible and you can, PLEASE 🙏🏼 get vaccinated - for yourself & ALL (especially children under 12) who can’t. – at Dallas, TX

I so agree!
#ThoughtForTheDay We should never stop believing in our youth even when they give us every reason to do so. Oftentimes they’re just testing the adults who from their experience have quit on them in the past. Let’s not let their behavior impact our attitudes about them. #Culturize

Anonymous surveys perpetuate & breed mistrust. Schools & districts must move to one on one conversations in order to shift from “someone is out to get me” to “someone wants to help me.” Only then can wounded & toxic cultures begin to heal. #Culturize

#ThoughtForTheDay Every educator I’ve spoken to recently wants what they’ve always wanted - to support & inspire kids to make a difference in their community. In these challenging times we need our communities to do the same - support & inspire our educators. #LiveYourExcellence
Congratulations!
9 years ago, I landed at JFK Airport and came to the US for the first time from Trinidad & Tobago as an undergraduate. This year, I officially graduated with my PhD in Chemical Engineering! Grateful for the journey and looking forward to the future #BlackInSTEM #BlackGirlMagic

Hey! Did you know that Ss who participate in CTE courses out perform students who don’t? CTE courses engage in more cross curricular learning & that strengthens the right brain, left brain connections which leads to enhanced problem solving. 🙌🏼 💡 @RISD_CTE #GROWRISD20 – at Richardson, TX

An important step by Governor Newsom. And a big thanks to @DrShirleyWeber and @KevinMcCartyCA for their persistent leadership throughout the years in championing reforms on police accountability, which has made California a model for other states.

America is raw right now, but it can be healed. It won’t happen overnight but if we keep marching and making our voices heard, change will happen.

Thanks Tom for another great contribution to the grading discussion.
If you are wondering where to start the conversations about shifting your school's grading practices and policies, try securing consensus around these three big ideas. #ATAssessment #GFIO #SBLIA #sblchat #edchat @SolutionTree

If there's ever a time that we need to focus on our students mental & emotional health, it is now. Think of everything they've endured already & its only June! Now is not the time to cut The Arts, PE, counselors! Congress needs to step up & support our schools, teachers & kids!

Teachers are like flight attendants. When turbulence occurs, our students are looking at our demeanor, what we say, and what we do, to inform how they should respond. The world is real rocky right now — what are you showing your students? – at Chicago, IL

White teachers: When we engage students in learning about racism, we must move, not at the pace of those most resistant to racial justice, but at the pace of the those most committed to and desperate for racial justice. Don't make this a conversation about celebrating diversity.

#ThoughtForTheDay Stress is known as the silent killer. Take care of YOU by giving yourself at least 2% of the day. This is roughly 30 min a day to do some sort of activity for you. It's not selfish. You can't keep giving & giving and not take care of you first. #Culturize

The one thing we forget is that students aren’t in the physical classroom. Schools are closed. They’re home. They aren’t prepared for virtual school or homeschool. The parents aren’t prepared either. We aren’t just shifting the location of school. Education has been interrupted.
