Coming to the end of an intense 4 days @ECTRIMS with this fantastic group @preventiveneur1. Great to share some of the work we’re doing and build collaborations in person (as well as catching up with friends!)

Great work from Josh Breedon - very clear poster showing that using 🧬 risk scores from European studies is not particularly accurate for predicting MS in British South Asian people #ECTRIMS2022 @EastLondonGenes @adams_study @QMUL_WIPH @preventiveneur1

Interesting 🔥 burning debate @ECTRIMS2022- should we treat RIS? 50% of patients with RIS will go on to develop MS 10 years after first MRI scan. Watch this space for results of ARISE trial tomorrow

What risk factors increase risk of #RIS converting to #MS? Age <37, enhancing lesions, spinal cord lesion, infratentorial lesions & oligoclonal bands. 3 factors: 91% chance of developing MS in 2 years. #ECTRIMS2022
Do you believe presymptomatic #MS or radiological isolated syndrome #RIS should be actively monitored? #ECTRIMS2022 audience pre-debate response only 37% said YES. Hope Christine Lebrun-Frenay convinces the audience to start treatment if patient high risk for symptomatic #MS.

Very inspiring talk by Ulrik Dalgas at #ectrims2019 Early treatment (DMT) + Early treatment (physical exercise) can give a better long-term prognosis in pwMS. #timematters @BartsMSBlog #rehabilitation #ms – at Stockholm, Sweden
Amazing support by JK Rowling. Unrivalled imagination & inspiration, underpinned by cash. Best of luck from all @BartsMSBlog @QMULBartsTheLon to the annrowlingclinic.org and colleagues at @EdinburghUni for new discoveries and leading patient care bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-496…

Might make a more two-sided debate with a mixed audience, e.g. patients, nurses, general neurologists, other stakeholders? Somewhat preaching to the choir at ECTRIMS 🙂

MS drugs are not cost effective in the way they are used in the real world - compelling argument by Gisela Kobelt. We need to use our drugs better from a health economic perspective - and that may well be using more expensive drugs earlier #burningdebate
