I hope (and think) we are likely to be entering a prime biotech deal-making spree over the next few months. Pharma valuations have been soaring (and seemingly will continue to do so today), all while quality biotechs that *could* be M&A targets have been relentlessly abused over the last several months. BTW, side note: If you're looking at the $XBI to determine that "Meh, it hasn't actually been that bad for SMID bios. Look at $XBI in the $150s!!!" - you are absolutely missing the true picture of what has been going on....badly. FORGET the $XBI you think you know - that index is long dead, filled with large cap stocks that DO NOT represent what $XBI used to represent. *And* consider the components that have driven *all* of the upside in the biotech indices of late...it has almost exclusively been GARBAGE that has rallied, leveling out the appearance of damage on the surface, all while under the hood the "quality" stuff has been absolutely demolished. Let's review the setup for an M&A frenzy here... ➡️Pharma revenues have been looking great. The cash is there, and the confidence in the business is there. ➡️Pharma stock prices are looking even better, despite what has actually been a pretty abysmal series of high-impact clinical trial failures from pharma since around the middle of this year. ➡️The patent cliffs are still there, largely unaddressed. The biggest in history. ➡️Not only that, but the cliffs are actively steepening, because the revenue streams that have (largely) been driving pharma valuations higher and higher are the very ones that are about to run out...making the need to act and fill those impending gaps even more dire (there is MUCH more for a pharma to defend going toward a patent cliff when their stock is +50% YoY - dire loss of revenue streams is simply not being priced in recently...they have to act the make that an actual reality) ➡️The elections are now out of the way and we basically have the guarantee of gridlock for at least 2 more years (healthcare's absolute favorite setup). ➡️Rates/cost of capital are almost certainly coming down as part of last night's election results ➡️The 2 biggest healthcare conferences of the year happen within the next 3 months, and (hopefully) pharma will be eager to keep their momentum going by having comprehensive plans for how they plan to manage their patent cliffs ready to go for investors by JPM... ➡️All the while, "quality" biotech M&A targets have actually been in a legitimate bear market over recent months (again, SPARE ME with references to $XBI - this is a borderline irrelevant datapoint today). This is perhaps the most interesting facet of the setup to me. It seems that absolutely everything points to a near-term resumption in biotech M&A after a several-month drought, yet the M&A targets continue to price in significant skepticism...This *further* incentives deals to happen, as valuations are quite palatable for pharma. Somehow, pharma's desperation can be fully evident WITHOUT the market eroding their bargaining power by bidding up their M&A targets. Really a wonderful setup for deals IMO. Pharma is flying as high as ever despite many recent clinical-stage setbacks. Gridlock grants them a political tailwind. Their patent cliffs not only draw closer with time, but also steeper with their ever-growing revenues and valuations, which have known expiration dates. All the while, the solution to their problem is no secret: M&A. Yet, the very obvious targets of all these aligning incentives have traded down relentlessly over recent months...Pharma gets the solution to their problems on sale right now despite the fact we all can see they are becoming increasingly mandatory buyers? Let's hope this is the perfect storm for some serious deal making over the next 3-4 months...the setup certainly looks ripe to me! I predict we will see rapid and *sharp* changes in biotech M&A target valuations as soon as we see a couple decent deals take place...Fingers crossed!

David Friedberg: France’s Crisis Is a Warning for America “France is a bellwether for the West. So take a look at this chart. This chart is a measure of public spending as a percent of GDP. And you can see the comparison of France's public spending as a % of GDP to the peak public spending as a % of GDP of major communist nations.” @Chamath: “So do you think France is a communist state? They spend like it.” @Jason: “Well, it's certainly been a socialist state, right?” Chamath: “Is it working?” @Friedberg: “That's my point. And I think this is such a prescient lesson for the West to look at. We all think that there's some political problem with Macron or whoever it was. The more the government spends, the worse the conditions get for its people, not the opposite, and then the people riot and revolt. Take a guess where the US is today. US public spending is roughly 36% of GDP. France today is operating its national government spending deficit is 5.4% of GDP. The US is actually 6.2% of GDP. France is, I think, probably the first to go because they're only growing their economy at half a percent while the US is growing at 2.3%. So we're still kind of hanging on because we have some degree of economic growth that's allowing us to kind of hold things together. But I would argue that we are facing the same sort of fiscal cliff which leads to this extraordinary social unrest as France. All the economic measures are aligned, we're at the same rate, we're at the same set of problems, and we're starting to see the cracks in the system. There's probably a multi-year solution.”

@EmmanuelMacron

BREAKING: A UAE royal fleet Boeing 737 VIP aircraft previously linked to the transfer of billions of dollars in frozen Iranian assets and gold flew from Abu Dhabi to Tehran today, marking the fourth such flight since June, per open-source flight tracking and regional media. The same kind of aircraft, with registration number A6-RJA, was tracked on August 11 and 12 flying to Tehran and Karaj, with sources claimed those flights carried around 2 tonnes of gold worth roughly $283 million alongside released Iranian assets. Reuters reported in June that the UAE agreed to release up to $10 billion in Iranian funds, with more than $3 billion reportedly delivered. The flight comes amid claims by Iranian IRIB journalist Morteza Ghoroghi that the Trump administration sought Iran’s permission to strike Pickaxe Mountain without retaliation, with Trump reportedly aiming to launch strikes against Iran within the next 24 hours.
BREAKING: The Trump administration reportedly asked Iran for permission to strike Pickaxe Mountain without retaliation, with Donald Trump aiming to launch strikes against Iran within the next 24 hours, according to Iranian IRIB journalist Morteza Ghoroghi. Ghoroghi wrote that “America asked Iran to allow an attack on Pickaxe Mountain without responding.” He also said Trump’s statements today indicate that war could begin within the next 24 hours, adding that Iran’s military forces are at full readiness to defend the country.

M&A is coming for $XBI once Tokat begins deal making and not doing teaching! Stifel says it could come as soon as this week. A couple good M&As and we'll see FOMO. Incredibly rich catalyst season coming up ahead going into JPM Jan. The patent cliff needs to be covered

SPCX CEO Musk: Unless there is a major world war, SpaceX market cap probably gets to >$100T in <10 years * Today: SpaceX (SPCX) is worth $2.07T ($152/share) on $18.7B of revenue and a $7.3B loss over the last 12 months. * What $100T needs by 2036: about $3.3T of net income on about $11T of revenue (30× P/E, 30% margin). That’s 1.4× what the whole S&P 500 earns today and 16× Walmart’s revenue. * Growth required: revenue compounding about 89% a year for 10 years. No company with over $10B of revenue has ever done that. * Value today if he’s right: about $20T, or roughly $1,500/share and 10× today’s price (15% required return, ~18% share dilution). * What the price assumes: today’s $2.07T implies only about a 10% chance he’s right. If you think the odds are above 10% it’s cheap; below, it’s expensive.

We are about to witness one of the biggest disruptions in the history of the telecom and internet industry. For decades, telecom and internet giants have dominated the industry with limited competition, slow innovation, and increasingly mediocre service. SpaceX, $SPCX, is about to change that. This is a clear wake up call to the current giants of the industry. Evolve or you will be left behind.
BREAKING: Verizon stock, $VZ, falls -7% on news that SpaceX, $SPCX, is acquiring a spectrum license to become a major mobile carrier in the US.

What will be most interesting to all of the jet-following, Tuesday-loving $ABVX shareholders is the highlighted line. As recently as August 2025, Helikon built a substantial position in another company and "encouraged" an acquisition of that company.
$abvx French regulatory disclosure reveals that Helikon Investments has substantially increased its position in Abivax. I've never shared Trump's ideas. But intellectual honesty means judging results, not the man. Three recent files the commentariat refuses to look at squarely. Economy: ~$775-800bn in US AI, energy and data-center capex in 2026. Private money, built on US soil, supporting growth exactly when the country must carry its debt. You don't erase debt, you outgrow it. Iran: despite a major crisis, Brent never spiked to $140-150. Hormuz flows back near pre-war levels. And on AI, he brought a divided industry to one table. Disliking the man doesn't exempt you from acknowledging the results.
