The GeoLibre R package is now available on CRAN!
cran.r-project.org/web/packa…
GeoLibre already runs as a desktop app, a web app, and a Jupyter widget. Now it runs in R too. The new geolibre R package is an htmlwidgets interface that embeds the full GeoLibre GIS in the RStudio Viewer, Quarto, R Markdown, and Shiny.
What you get:
- A real GIS, not a static map. Layer panel, styling, drawing tools, identify, and the processing toolbox are all there inside your R session.
- Bring your own data. `sf` objects, GeoJSON, CSV and XY tables, Shapefile, GeoPackage, FlatGeobuf, GeoParquet, KML, Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF, XYZ, WMS, WMTS, WFS, PMTiles, vector tiles, 3D Tiles, and even video overlays.
- Shiny, in both directions. `geolibre_proxy()` updates a live map without rebuilding it, and drawn features, selected features, identify results, and the current view come back as Shiny inputs. You can even run processing algorithms from the server.
Try it out

- Live interactive example: r.geolibre.app/articles/inte…

Observable Plot hit >100k daily downloads yesterday for the first time! Literally “off the chart”! (Because we set the maximum of the y domain to the 99.5th percentile in order to occasionally give ourselves this satisfaction.) Congrats to Mike and Fil! observablehq.github.io/oss-a…

EVoC is a library designed specifically for fast clustering of high dimensional embedding vectors. It can produce high quality clusters extremely efficiently, and requires little to no hyperparameter tuning.
Better clustering than UMAP + HDBSCAN; faster clustering than KMeans.

Introducing Semiotic 3, a #chart library designed for streaming #dataviz and AI-assisted coding. Prior versions of Semiotic were ambitious but less developer friendly. Since I firmly believe the AI-assisted development model is here to stay, I felt this version had to support it.

🚀 MAJOR RELEASE
The TRACE Corporate Bond Data Pipeline — October 2025 code release is live! Part of the Open Bond Asset Pricing initiative.
Our goal: corporate bond data is controversial. We give researchers complete control over their TRACE corporate bond data cleaning procedures with a comprehensive, customizable code pipeline written in Python. Build your corporate bond database with the filtering choices you think are reasonable and defensible.
What's included:
✅ Full user control — Choose from extensive filtering options: trading volume thresholds, bond types, time-of-day restrictions, error correction parameters - if you don't agree on a data filter - simply exclude it, or augment it!
✅ Automated processing — Transform raw intraday TRACE transactions into clean daily pricing panels for Enhanced, Standard, and 144A TRACE datasets
✅ Error correction algorithms — Don't just throw data away! Fix it first with the decimal-shift corrector (someone fat fingered a trade of $100 as $0.01 -- fix it!) and bounce-back algorithms that automatically detect, correct and eliminate transaction price errors
✅ Transparency — Generates detailed 400+ page reports documenting every filter decision and every bond that is affected by the error corrector/eliminator algorithms
✅ Customization — Adjust parameters to match your research needs
and create defensible, reproducible datasets that you have full control over
🚀 Stage 0 of the pipeline is in public beta and fully open-source. We're
actively seeking researchers to test the code, contribute improvements,
and help us build a community-driven corporate bond database. Stage 1 and 2 are coming end of November.
All code is publicly available and ready to use:

Please give it a star! ✨

🚨 The 2025 Open Source Asset Pricing data release is live! This year, we carefully translated the Stata code to Python (30k lines). This makes maintenance easier and shows our commitment to producing the highest quality dataset out there. We also have a few bonus features 🧵

R-Universe by @rOpenSci is an extremely useful project.
My latest R package, {pmtiles}, is not a good fit for CRAN as it bundles a pre-compiled Go library.
With R-Universe, I was able to get installable cross-platform binaries built in hours!

How many 6 year old databases get 3-10x faster sorting??? When it was already world-class??? Amazing stuff from DuckDB!
We published a new deep dive by Laurens Kuiper, who recently redesigned DuckDB's sort.
One data point: ordering the TPC-H SF100 lineitem table with the memory limit set to 30 GB is 3× faster in DuckDB v1.4 than in v1.3.

Take the time to learn the {mirai} package, an async framework for R.
There's a learning curve, but it's worth it.
Jobs that used to take hours now take minutes in parallel with mirai.
And I'm getting never-before-seen performance in my Shiny apps.

The people wanted a covered calls / option selling mega-thread, a one-click response to all the charlatans out there trying to farm retail investors.
Systematically, blindly selling options is a BAD IDEA. Underperforms owning equities by a lot. Let's go through why and how.
