SHOUT THIS FROM THE ROOFTOPS
"The reason we've got a housing crisis is Thatchers RTB.. what we need.. is not housing to help people get on a ladder, we need lifelong assured tenancies in council properties that are run by the council & pay for themselves". Bonnie Craven (Sutton & Cheam CLP) is spot on #Lab21

The government has until December to decide whether to pull the NHS out of its £330m contract with Palantir - a US spy-tech firm that has facilitated genocide in Gaza. Andy Burnham needs to pick a side. We have picked ours.

Forget the euphoria of Britain's change of policy on settlements. Palestinians, totally abandoned by the international community, are being ethnically cleansed in occupied east Jerusalem. I report for Middle East Eye on house demolitions in Al Bustan: middleeasteye.net/opinion/we…

Going without essentials takes a toll on every part of life. Among people who had to cut back on food to afford other essentials like rent and bills: 💭 81% said financial pressures harmed their mental health 💊 61% said their physical health was affected 💜 56% said their relationships were affected Ahead of the Budget, urgent action is needed to make essentials affordable. The first step should be bringing local housing allowance in line with what rent actually costs. Email the Prime Minister using our simple tool here: action.trussell.org.uk/local…

The club is fucked by the @GlazersOut
🚨🚨🗣️ Bruno Fernandes: “At this club, there’s too much focus on what’s been done in the PAST, but we’re not those people anymore. The club and the players need to understand that. “Unfortunately for us - especially when it comes to the players - those who join expect to win trophies, win games, and reach the highest level, but unfortunately, that’s been very DIFFICULT at this club in recent years. That’s the situation.” #MUFC [@SkySport via @NathSalt1]

Genuine question- has anyone seen a single Palestinian or person of Palestinian origin in the UK media being asked for their opinion on whether Zionism is racism? In three weeks I’ve yet to see a single one.

These people are all part of the same thing and that is crown loyalism. That is a very particular British form of reaction and it stretches across all of the Anglosphere that still retains the monarch as head of state.
Coming soon: Al Jazeera uncovers disturbing links between British right wing activists, the far right and loyalist paramilitaries. #Glasgow #Belfast #London

2020: Matt Hancock, "Right from the start we've tried to throw a protective ring around our care homes" 2026: Baroness Hallett, "The claim that a so called protective ring has be thrown around care homes right from the start was unfounded. Quite the opposite is true. The adult social care sector as a whole, appeared to be something of an after thought" My view: Matt Hancock said the government had tried to throw a “protective ring” around care homes. He repeated the claim in Parliament. Nadhim Zahawi later publicly backed it, while Boris Johnson defended the government’s handling when challenged. Now Baroness Hallett’s inquiry has rejected the claim as unfounded: care homes were not protected from the start; adult social care was treated as an afterthought. This was more than a failure of words. Patients were discharged from hospitals into care homes without routine testing, and care homes were not advised to isolate those arrivals. Staff faced shortages of PPE and testing, while residents and families bore the consequences. The inquiry describes a system that failed to plan for the risks and failed to put care homes at the centre of its response. What we saw was a collective failure—a collaboration of incompetence at the expense of life. The phrase “protective ring” offered reassurance while the protections people needed were missing. Thousands of families were left grieving, and care workers were left trying to cope with the consequences. Those responsible should face the findings honestly, explain how this happened and make sure the lessons lead to change. But the question remains, why is there almost no accountability for the actions government ministers took during covid?

Yes, seeing la Mairie de Limoges go up in flames was terrible. But all of you expressing your horror and outrage as you see a town hall get burnt: - where was your horror and outrage when a high-school kid was shot in the face and lost his eye? - where was your horror and outrage when another kid lost his hand as a stun-grenade was fired at him? - where was your horror and outrage when another school kid had both his jaws broken by a projectile fired at his face by the police? All of that happened before Saturday.

History rhyming. When it comes down to saving their wealthy but socially iniquitous and divided system from collapse, liberals always choose fascism over socialism or even social democracy.

The idiot’s guide to states – and their ‘rights’: 1. States exist. Some 200 of them. 2. States are the political arrangement in which a people express their self-determination. That arrangement can and does change. 3. States enjoy rights, but only against each other. They have the right, for example, not to face unprovoked aggression from another state. 4. No state has some enduring, abstract “right” to exist. Otherwise bad ones like apartheid South Africa would be unreformable. 5. Peoples, by contrast, do have a right to exist. That’s why states that commit apartheid, ethnic cleansing and genocide are so gravely violating international law. Because they are violating a people’s right to exist. 6. When people argue Israel has a “right” to exist, they are trying to dupe you into believing international law is fine with apartheid, ethnic cleansing and genocide. It isn’t. For obvious reasons, international law prefers the rights of peoples over those of states. Otherwise, no state could ever be illegitimate. Its rights would trump those of the people it rules over. 7. When someone refuses to agree that Israel has a “right” to exist, they are not being antisemitic, whatever the media keeps telling you. They are upholding international law: the precedence of peoples’ rights over those of states. 8. The claim that Israel has a “right” to exist is not what it seems. It’s really the claim that the current reality of extreme inequality between Israelis and Palestinians be set in stone. It’s the diabolical claim that Israel has a right to commit apartheid, ethnic cleansing and genocide against the Palestinian people.
