I've spent about two years building OpenMDTA, market and reference data infrastructure for fintechs. Many price and instrument feeds go in. One typed API ready for your apps to use comes out. Your next market shouldn't mean your next data silo. openmdta.com

i spent two days optimizing a service to fit into my allocated cpu+ram budget. finally got it there. realized i had misconfigured my test-system and was actually putting 4x the load i had planned on everything. this will be even more efficient than i had hoped for.

i love agents. i can send them on side quests and expeditions to test my wildest hunches, things i'd never have dared to ask my developers to spend their time and intellectual capacity on. "thanks for wasting two weeks of your life going down that rabbit hole. i think the outcome sucks. delete the branch." no ego to hurt.

Why is no company producing Superfest/gorilla glass drinkware, why do I have to clean up shattered glass like a moron in the big 26 when this was solved 40+ years ago

Now trying out a combo where Fable asks Astra for a second opinion on what to do. Surprisingly Fable has preferred Astra's solution to his own initial idea 90% of the time. Is this bias, because it treats Astra's hints like a user's suggestion that i has been trained to follow? I should probably try it out the other way around and compare.

I added a Claude Max sub to my Codex Pro sub after the latest announcements from OpenAI. My verdict: Fable > Astra. Opus 5.5 and Sol 6.1 in a similar league. Opus writes better code, but Sol seems to get a better idea of the big picture without additional prompting. Opus often needs more help or discovers something while mid-implementation.

Codex suddenly using ESC to jump to the tail of the history sucks, when ESC is also used to interrupt the agent. @thsottiaux Did anyone dogfood this?

What is the story with @filebase's recently introduced S3 offering? I can find very few details about how data is actually stored and replicated / when a PUT is acknowledged. TLDR: how many nines?

you need a robot-making robot. just like agents are most efficient if they write code to solve a given problem after an exploratory phase, a robot-per-task model might make sense. put an optimized machine together, do the needed iterations of the task, then tear it apart for reuse.

I don't quite see how having Palantir in the loop is not exactly "giving the alpha to Palantir".
Palantir CEO Alex Karp on what customers actually want, the real business of frontier labs, and the importance of open source models: “What the technical customers want is control over their compute, their models, their data stack, and their alpha. They want to know they own the means of production, and it's not being transferred to someone else.” "Who owns the data? Are the prompts secure? Is this being transferred to you?" "If it was so valuable, and I can make you a billion dollars, wouldn't I say I'll make you a billion dollars and I want 30%? Why are they charging for tokens if it's so valuable?"

Why? Now the poor LLM is not allowed to cool itself down in east-german swimming lakes.
We removed an LM's ability to speak German by fine-tuning on only 4 German tokens. As part of a 1-day hackathon with our product Silico, we removed a 67M-parameter language model's ability to predict German text, by tuning only a scalar factor on one subcomponent of the weights. (1/6)

not much wind today. but enough too cool down a little bit with some shades down.

I have a desk at a co-working space nearby, just for that coffee machine small talk. And I am definitely not a social person. anyway now that it's summer it is time for boat office. just have to find a spot to drop anchor for that 10am daily.
I am working from home for 5+ years already. Kids are not a problem at all. First of all - they do understand that you have to work. They do understand that the door is closed for reason. Never was an issue. The real issue is absolutely different. When I moved to Germany, I had to go to the office. I had no kids. I could party hard. I got a lot of connections. After corona hit and WFH appeared + I moved to another city (60km away) - I started slowly losing connections. I now barely have any connections left. I may simplify it to this: I am alone now with only my family around. This is the real downside of WFH - you are losing your social activities pretty fast. Especially if you are not in your home town.

Codex is pretty good at parametric 3D design for small replacement parts. This is an adapter set for the arm of a Garmin wind sensor. It took a few iterations, but was much so much easier than doing it manually. Printed on an X1C in ABS-CF.
