Uganda gov't would rather spend billions on tik tok abusers to abuse NUP than do something like this their grand children would benefit from🤦🏾♂️

If there’s one thing that I’m so much fed of in this country,it’s the Ugandan internet service providers!!!!!!!
1. You pay for WiFi expensively but you still don’t get to utilize it to it’s full capacity because somehow UEDCL will disappoint you switch off electricity………

This is quite comprehensive and elaborate but the bottom line is the unstable power has left many business at losses and some loosing their customers, I recently saw a video of a person who runs a bakery and they had lost millions in dough because electricity!

These clips regarding Joint Stock Company Global Security Contract are damning.
1, An Assistant Commissioner for Finance and Planning in the Office of the President admitted they are relied on the "appetite" of new motor vehicle buyers to shell out UGX 714K for these controversial "Digital Plates," while banking on penalizing motorists with heavy traffic fines to finance a security. What do economists have to say.
2. Then JSGS conducted its own feasibility study and arrived at a project cost of USD 127 million. Yet, somehow, the PMT awarded them USD 257 million, more than double their own estimate. That glaring discrepancy raises serious questions. Something about this does not add up, and it smells like a rotten rat.
3.The Chairman of the PMT was openly trying to set a trap for the Chief Mechanical Engineer (CME) who was only in the room because he was acting Permanent Secretary. The CME has had zero involvement in this project. None. Hence the confusion and endless questions.
Yet his office / team is, without question, the most technically competent unit in government when it comes to motor vehicles. At the end of this clumsy entrapment attempt, he calmly dismantled the whole thing by citing a project that actually sits under the very person who tried to trap him.
The President’s letter (posted by @TonyNatif) made his preference clear: the project must be under the Ministry of Security. Whether that was genuine policy direction or someone with ulterior motives pushing for a “security umbrella,” the reality remains that a large part of what must be done is technical, not administrative.
All government-owned mechanical engineering equipment, including the entire motor vehicle fleet, falls under the Office of the Chief Mechanical Engineer. They specify and approve vehicle standards for every MDA. They process registrations. They maintain the central database. They inspect vehicles before boarding off. They manage the fleet from acquisition to disposal. That is their job. That is their mandate. That is their expertise. That is why they should be leading implementation of this project.
Speaking of motor vehicles, why is motor vehicle registration and inspection overseen by a department that can be headed by virtually any professional: given that previous heads have included an economist, an engineer, and an acting head with a background in social science?

🚨🚨DEAN OF THIEVES 🚨🚨
We the traders, boda riders, youth and ordinary Ugandans have suffered enough. We are not refusing to pay tax. We are refusing to be over taxed and scammed by a system designed to make us poor.
This is how URA over taxes us;
1. Six Taxes on One Item. This is a Scam.
You import one phone or one bale of clothes. URA charges you;
- Import Duty 25%
- Excise Duty
- VAT 18%
- Withholding Tax 6%
- Infrastructure Levy 1.5%
- Environmental Levy 30%
One item, six taxes stacked on top of each other. By the time you reach Kikuubo, the price has tripled. Who can afford that? This is not taxation, this is extortion.
2. PAYE 40% - Highest in East Africa.
In Rwanda PAYE is 30%, Tanzania 30%, Kenya 30%. In Uganda it's 40%. A worker who earns 1M takes home only 600k. Government takes 400k before you even buy food which also has 18% VAT. Where is our take home? 🏠
3. Fuel Excise Raised Every Year.
Fuel excise from 1,350/= to 1,550/= to now 1,750/=per litre. Every time fuel goes up, everything goes up taxi fare, food, cement, soap. Yet URA says they are widening tax base.
4. Double Taxation on Small Businesses.
A small shop owner in Kampala pays: Trading license to KCCA, Income tax to URA, VAT 18% plus daily EFRIS fines of 2M, 6M for small mistakes. Many shops closed in 2024-2025 because of EFRIS enforcement without education.
5. EFRIS and Instant Fines are Digital Scam.
URA introduced EFRIS but did not train traders. Now a mistake of not issuing a receipt is 2M fine, then 6M. How can a woman selling tomatoes afford 6M? This is not tax collection rather this is punishment of the poor.
6. 11% Tax to GDP yet Harassing the Same 1 Million People.
URA collects only 11% of GDP, the lowest in EAC because they fear to tax the rich and the corrupt who steal billions. So they squeeze the same 1 million compliant Ugandans, boda riders, market women and small shops over and over.
What we ask not request because we are tax payers;
1. Reduce PAYE from 40% to 30% like our neighbors.
2. Reduce VAT from 18% to 10% like Kenya.
3. Stop stacking 6 taxes on one imported item and harmonize to one single tax.
4. Stop EFRIS fines until every trader is trained free of charge.
5. Publish online how every shilling is used.
URA @URAuganda , you are not collecting tax. You are killing businesses. You are making Uganda the most expensive country to live in East Africa.
If you tax us to death, who will pay tax tomorrow?
We Pay Tax, We Deserve Respect, Not Scam.

I have always prized capitalism over state/public managed enterprises. This is why I am not surprised by the low customer satisfaction of @UEDCLTD , which now manages over 2.6 million customer accounts.
Umeme was imperfect— yet invested $500M+ and cut energy losses from 38% down to 16%. Self-interest/profit drove them. Amidst electricity generation and transmission challenges, they innovated (Umeme left behind approximately 2.2 million connected customers scaled up from around 250,000 to 290,000 customers when they took over the network in 2005).
UEDCL took charge. Looks like we are back to "nya nyu, nya nyu"—that endless blink-blink, on-and-off power supply.
Where do we go from here? How will households cope? How will salons and midala keep "lights" on? How will factories function? Uganda’s power sector is one step forward, then two back and then one forward. Eh!
What should the Energy Minister and leadership of UEDCL do tomorrow morning? The start:
Convert “yaka”/ “light” cash into physical network investments. Put aside buy processes of government that constrain logistics. Work on low morale and productivity of staff and limited network maintenance. Put CASH to use!
To prevent economic stagnation, Uganda will require a honest program to revamp, modernise and scale its power sector. To solve UEDCL last mile problems there is a fierce urgency to enforce private-sector efficiency, strict performance KPIs, and public-private partnership models rather than letting public utilities fall back into bureaucratic inertia.

The only mistake this little girl's parents made was creating a video at a sacred site. Yet, she is the one bearing the ultimate punishment. God stands for equality, compassion, justice, and humanity. By losing her parents, this innocent child has been orphaned and left to suffer the true consequences. If those in power want to act like gods by passing judgment, they must behave like God too. They must step up, take responsibility, and provide this girl with the care, support, and future her parents always wanted for her.

The video is from May 2026 and depicts a girl at her father's funeral in an unrelated context, not connected to the two Bangladeshis executed in Saudi Arabia for an indecent act in a mosque.

How long must Ugandans endure this endless cycle of failure? Did UEDCL take over from UMEME to improve power supply, or was it simply to remind us of the sheer incompetence, ineptness and systemic failure that defines this regime? 🤔
