Basically...what the powers that be are saying is this.
'We can't afford the NHS. And to sustain it, you, staff, need to take a below inflation pay-rise aka a cut.'
Now- to improve work productivity, you need a couple of other things- beyond pay.
Good working conditions, less discrimination
The NHS can't offer any of the above.
And wonders why the NHS isn't productive.
Workforce planning is an ethereal thing in the UK health care system.
So we are where we are.

The Government has told the DDRB it is planning for a 2.4% pay rise for doctors in 2027/28.
With RPI at 3.4%, prices are rising faster than the proposed pay. At that rate, this would be a real terms pay cut.
The last deal was not the end of the journey to full pay restoration. Resident doctors have faced years of pay erosion and we are in this for the long haul. We will keep making the case until pay is fully restored.
Nothing is decided yet. The final DDRB award is still to come and April 2027 is getting closer. That gives us time to get organised.
NHS staff go above and beyond every day. The Government should not count on that goodwill to keep the service running while pay falls behind.
Cutting doctorsโ pay wonโt keep them in the NHS.
The DDRB must show its independence and recommend what patients and the NHS need, not what the Government is prepared to pay.

The audacity of a government listing โhigher inflation, energy costs and reducing incomeโ as arguments to cut NHS staff pay.
NHS staff also face these things, and theyโre not in government, theyโre not in the unique governmental position to materially influence them, unlikeโฆ ๐ค

Just two things:
1. Renewed strike action across the NHS would hit electives too. and cost much more than offering a credible pay award.
2. If this is true, and I take it with a pinch of salt, then you simply canโt afford to reach the targets; youโre demanding staff pay for it.
