Hinsdale Township High School District has declared victory in a $82M bond "referendum" before polls even opened this morning.
Under Illinois' backdoor referendum process, the working cash bonds can proceed without an automatic public vote unless voters file a qualifying petition.
Residents had just 30 days to collect signatures from 10% of registered voters to force a public vote.
Ban backdoor referendums. They stab voters in the back.

APOLLO'S SPACEX BET: @elonmusk's firm in a regulatory filing this morning disclosed that Apollo will be responsible for buying and leasing GPUs, with roughly a five-year lease term totalling $40 billion.
It's another really large affirmation of the AI buildout, even if the industry is facing rotations more largely. It also shows you how much dry powder is still on the sidelines for just a single-issuer deal, with one major credit counterparty (though wouldn't be surprised to see Apollo syndicate the deal). Think this is really just the tip of the iceberg with how much private capital will continue to flow in.

This is so well said, @RickRieder
The Federal Reserve held interest rates steady today, and we think patience is the right approach. Inflation remains high, but the question isn't simply whether rates should go higher. It's whether higher rates would actually address the inflation that remains.
The challenge is that parts of the economy, and of inflation itself, are moving at very different speeds. Growth remains remarkably resilient in aggregate, supported by a powerful investment cycle, but beneath the surface, parts of the economy that are more sensitive to borrowing costs are feeling considerably more restraint. We see a similar divergence in inflation. Many of the cyclical components that respond to higher interest rates appear relatively well controlled. Meanwhile, persistent pressures across energy, insurance, healthcare and education are unlikely to be meaningfully affected by another 25-basis-point rate increase.
In some ways, the Fed is operating a house with one thermostat, but very different temperatures in every room. Turning it down further may make the rooms that are already cool even colder, without doing much to cool those that remain hot.
That doesn't mean the Fed should become complacent. Inflation is still above its 2% objective and the Fed should retain the option to tighten further if the underlying inflation trend deteriorates. But hawkish rhetoric and patient policy can comfortably coexist, particularly when the bond market has already done some tightening of its own through higher Treasury yields.
For investors, we think this environment argues for humility rather than making a heroic directional call on rates. Real yields remain attractive, and there's considerable income available across high-quality fixed income markets. We continue to favor a moderate duration posture, taking advantage of today's income opportunities while remaining patient as this unusually divergent economy evolves.
The Fed doesn't need to ignore the heat. It just needs to be thoughtful about where it's coming from.

Meanwhile the VC secondaries market is alive and well 👇 must read via @MeghanKReynolds on the investor vibes. Good reminder that distributions have been weak outside of some banner exits.
Heard from so many VC LPs this week. “The math doesn’t math”.
An LP with a mature VC program is in this scenario:
- At or over allocation to VC / Growth. Why? The NAV of their VC/Growth portfolio has grown 100%+ YTD because of lots of cap calls, few distributions and markups. Their public NAV is likely up +10% YTD (if indexed) and the PE/RE/Credit is flatish. The VC Growth numerator has wildly outpaced the denominator.
- They don’t know how to plan for distributions because of public lockups and some big GPs still holding onto spacex.
- 75%+ of their VC/Growth funds are raising right now.
- Their IC is worried about bubbles, credit markets and being further overweight into any further market downturn. It’s the end of the year, so no one wants to make big decisions. At the same time, these LPs (having spent time in VC/Growth) know that all of the best stuff has NOT been done yet (so early on diffusion, the chatGPT moment in science/health/Physical AI)
- This is going to lead to some tough decisions. GPs should plan accordingly. Helping LPs make the case to boards on why now/what next and understand cash flow planning is important at the moment.

And you are falling into the Trap of trying to say things aren't as bad as you think they are. They're here you're not getting them out and they're causing everything to be inflated.

"They try to fool voters by appearing moderate."
Former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt takes aim at Texas Democrat James Talarico, accusing him of following what she calls a familiar Democratic election strategy: campaigning as a moderate after securing the party's nomination.
Leavitt argues that Talarico's own words tell a different story and warns that his approach reflects a broader pattern within the Democratic Party. | @foxandfriends

"If you look at Texas, if you look at these states, any of the border states... they were a criminal mess. And now they're perfect."
President Trump draws a sharp contrast between his border policies and those of Democrats as voters head to the polls to decide the direction of the country.
Speaking on @foxandfriends Trump claims crime has fallen to its lowest level in 125 years.

BREAKING: President Trump says the U.S. is cutting off roughly $4 billion in annual aid to Israel by the end of the year.
Trump says he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have already reached an agreement, arguing Israel no longer needs the financial assistance.
The president also questions why the U.S. continues providing billions while facing political criticism over the funding, pointing to Democrats who have made American aid to Israel a campaign issue.
But the move doesn't mean an end to U.S. military cooperation with Israel. Trump says the country can still purchase American weapons.

Long lines stretch around a Texas polling location as voters turn out to cast their ballots, with campaign signs lining the area and poll workers moving people through.
Ken Paxton says Texas is slipping away and frames the race as a fight to save the state. James Talarico offers a different message, casting the election as a fight between everyday people and the mega-rich.
For some Talarico supporters, the decision comes down to equal rights and opposition to Paxton. One voter tells Fox News she doesn't trust him enough to give him her vote.

"I switched."
An Alaska voter says he was considering voting for Democrat Mary Peltola, but a report about an alleged effort to recruit a second candidate named Dan Sullivan changed his mind.
The voter tells Fox News he found the reported scheme "so sleazy" and now plans to support Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan instead.
Peltola denies knowing about the alleged effort, which has become a major point of contention in the Senate race.
