i think people with this mindset fail to realize that people are not apart of fandoms because they’re fans of your fanwork; they’re fans of the source material. YOU as a fanfic writer are just another FAN! the only criteria to join a FANdom is to be a FAN!!

Fandoms can survive without freeloaders. Fandoms CANNOT survive without creatives.

Wrong. The fandom only needs the source material to exist. Communities have and will continue to be built around the source material even if there is no fanwork to share.

How would we know they are missing, exactly? They don't give likes or comments, they don't post anything, and they don't contribute. How do we get validation from someone we don't know is there? You NEED fanworks to have a fandom. We don't NEED you to have one.

i think one big issue with fandoms is that they genuinely do not like platonic relationships and will stone you for viewing two characters as friends as if that makes their bond less β€˜deep’

People don't understand that things like fanfic, fanart, cosplay, shipping, etc. despite being loud, are still very niche communities. The average fan is the person sitting in front of the TV and inevitably, going to do something else once the show ends.

fandom artists and fic writers are getting entirely too much dip on their chip. you are not fandom aristocracy because you draw pictures or write fanfics. you are a fan in a community built around a shared interest, just like everybody else. please get over yourselves!

shipping-focused Tumblr community, a lore analysis subreddit, a discussion forum, and a cosplay convention ALL engage with the same fictional universe in completely different ways. they are ALL fans!
