Personal Update (๐งต)
1/ Iโm starting up again. All in.
I am a co-founder of @GnomicaBio.โจWe will develop novel drugs for treating cancer by targeting bacterial functions in our body.โจWe believe weโre going to change the world.ย
My co-founders are Prof. Ravid Straussman from the Weizmann Institute (@WeizmannScience) and Dr. Yuval Raviv.
We will commercialize world-class research from Ravidโs lab (@StraussmanR), which has been at the vanguard of tumor microbiome research.
How did I get involved in this?

Are you or a loved one navigating a cancer diagnosis and wondering about options for non-standard molecular diagnostics, clinical trials, navigation support, and anything else "off the menu"?
PSA: The team at Future of Cancer Care Today (FCCT) will do a call with you at no cost to help get oriented to all the resources at your disposal:

I just gave a talk about healthcare AI a few days ago and mentioned Sid's story. A few people from the audience approached me afterwards about family members with sarcoma diagnoses in need of support. It's shocking (and sad) how many people are affected by disorienting cancer diagnoses.
FCCT is an awesome initiative to support these families. Kudos to Sid, Jacob, and team. 252 people have already benefited from a conversation and I expect many more to come.

Thanks for following my cancer journey, it has been quite the ride! Iโm 16 months cancer free now. I view two people as my cofounders on the journey of going โfounder modeโ on my cancer. These are Jose M. Mejia Oneto, who was in my YC batch of W15 with Shasqi doing cancer therapies, and became my best friend! And @JAC0BSTERN who I met through Jose and who left his job in biotech to become โCEO of my healthโ. After we made progress on my disease we started creating companies to make the latest scientific advances more accessible to others. Weโve started 15 companies in the last year and a half under the Even One Ventures umbrella, see evenone.ventures/ for more information.

Iโm going to start posting about my cancer related investments, hoping it might find a relevant audience of partners/fellow investors.
Starting with Baccine - which is one of the most exciting companies Iโve come across and invested in.
Weโre building a new cancer treatment powered by tumor-targeting bacteria.
The goal - like much of the latest research in cancer/immunotherapy, and like much of my investment focus - is to wake up the immune system inside immunologically cold solid tumors.
Itโs going to be very hard, but If successful - it will potentially create responses in previously hard-to-treat cancers.
----
The immune system evolved to recognize bacteria as danger.
So engineering bacteria to find tumors and activate the immune system there is an elegant solution to a complex problem. Thatโs why I like it so much: many great breakthroughs feel obvious in hindsight.
It has been tried before, and it wonโt be easy.
But I believe in Baccine for two main reasons:
The team is just phenomenal and truly world-class.
The science here is built on years of work from Prof. Ravid Straussmanโs lab at @WeizmannScience, including landmark research published in Science for Nature on bacteria inside tumors, treatment resistance, and immune recognition.
Our CTO, Dr. Deborah Rosenberg-Nejman, was the first author of the Science paper on the tumor microbiome. Our chief scientist, Dr. oded sandler, is an accomplished cancer biologist with 15+ years of experience in immuno-oncology and bacterial therapeutics.
Weโre taking a new approach.
Our bacteria are designed to home to tumors, activate the innate immune system, present tumor-specific neoantigens, and deliver immune-modulating payloads directly inside the tumor.
Tumor homing + immune activation + vaccination + local payload delivery - in one platform that could eventually be personalized and programmable.
I spent some time with the team in the lab, and itโs super exciting. The foundational science is there, weโre doing our best to learn from previous attempts in the field, and weโre now ready to drive this toward the clinic.
If you want to support us reach out
Baccine.tech or directly to Mark Hasleton - [email protected] (Baccineโs awesome CEO).

I spoke at the Khosla Ventures CEO Summit earlier this year on going founder mode on my cancer.
Founders already have the instinct for operating without a playbook and having a willingness to assemble your own team when the existing one runs out of answers. I use that instinct on my companies and my treatment.
Thanks to Khosla Ventures for the room to share.

This is an exciting day for me. After a long journey through blockchains, cryptography, and ZK rabbit holes, my new book, co-authored with @NathanOnCrypto, is finally out.
It's part history, part deep dive, part red pill, and it's about two of my favorite topics: blockchains and ZK.
This is a book for non-experts, written in plain language, zero complicated jargon.
And now it's finally published!

TODAY WE RELEASE THE 1%
A list of the yearโs very best papers.
When we launched QED a little over half a year ago, I told you that our mission is to revolutionize scientific publishing. Revolutions donโt happen overnightโฆ or maybe they do? When new technologies enable it? Time to put the power back in the scientistsโ hands, not the journalsโ. Many scientists are depressed, and think journals will stay the same forever, no matter how dysfunctional, but no, itโs happening. Sooner than most people (or committees, or universities) can imagine. Check this out:
When we released our AI review platform, it started a whole debate (and social media storm) on what it is that human reviewers can do that AI review still canโt. There are such things (and Iโm happy about it), but the list is getting shorter and shorter. Numerous scientists already use QED to find gaps in their manuscripts and grants and to get constructive feedback that improves their experiments. And now, with your help, we take it to the next level.
Today we release reviews and scores for all the experimental Life Science pre-prints that came out last year: 57,455 manuscripts!! If we are being conservative, and estimate that it takes a minimum of 8 hours to review a paper (it takes longer), and if we agree that 3 reviewers are typically required to review every submission, then reviewing this amount of manuscripts would take human experts >1 MILLION REVIEWER HOURSโฆ Assuming you can find so many experts (not going to happen!), and assuming the experts who agree would have no conflict of interest (ha!!).
QED did it. Then, we chose the best papers in every field (you can browse and search for key words), based on the originality and validity of the claims being made. We benchmarked our reviews not only using eventual journal selections but also by comparing our evaluations to those of human experts. When there were disagreements between the QED score and journal rank, we asked domain experts to judge whoโs right (blindly), and they overwhelmingly sided with QED. No need to rely on glam journals anymore. No need to wait for two years to get their stamp of approval. No need to beg the reviewers, or worse, to write less ambitious papers, so no one would be upset. Want to find the most interesting papers in your field? Want to see where your paper stands? (โWhatโs your QED SCORE?โ) Just visit qedscience.com!
One last thing: We want good science to be seen (you can read the winnersโ comments about their selection and the stories behind their discoveries on our website). We plan to organize a conference where the first authors (yes, the first authors, not the PIs) will present their work. We are not here to shame anyone (papers that got low scores). The reviews of the best papers that we selected explain why QEDโs AI thought these papers are especially good - whatโs unique about them, what their strengths are, which conceptual leaps were made, and what cutting-edge tools were developed. However, on the QED Science site you can analyze any paper in private, itโs fully transparent, and see if there are any gaps and whatโs missing. Run your paper to see how it can improve, and maybe next time your paper will reach the top (if itโs not there already).
Whether youโre on the 1% list of just have a good score that you want to share, on our website you can download the report and share it, for example with your tenure, promotion, or hiring committee, or with your university PR department. Forget about journal embargoes and waiting for it to be โacceptedโ. Improve your work until itโs good enough for YOU. You decide.

ELI5 of @avihu28's brilliant paper:
1. In a Bitcoin tx there are two parts:
(1) The first part used to show that you own a Bitcoin. That part can be made post-quantum safe.
(2) The second part that says who controls it next. That part can also be made post quantum safe.
BUT, till yesterday, the ONLY THING binding the two parts together was a *quantum susceptible signature*.
This means that Darth Vader can see your TX, take his quantum computer, break your quantum susceptible signature, and replace your second part (sending the Bitcoin to your friend) with his second part (sending the Bitcoin to himself).
Avihu found a brilliant way, which uses another brilliant idea (BINOHASH) by the brilliant @robin_linus, to BIND together the two parts in a way that is unbreakable by a quantum computer. So now even Darth Vader cannot take your bitcoin.
The downside, acknowledged by Avihu, is that this solution comes with a tech-ish complex UX and won't be cheap. It can serve as a fall back solution but a better one would be to agree to a soft fork that allows for Bitcoin transactions to be signed with post quantum secure signatures.
Which option do you prefer?
