actually this is a tip my therapist told me in dealing with my OCD. she said to treat it like an annoying coworker who compulsively lies or a kid telling an over imaginative story and just be like โ€œoh wowww reaaallyโ€ sarcastically to any thought it tries to convince me of
This is how you ignore negative thoughts btw

like u cannot make the thought go away necessarily but you can choose to not give it any real weight

I already know he has the most regulated nervous system
went to visit a friend whoโ€™s a ceramicist and works in a studio with no phone signal in a tiny yorkshire village. he doesnโ€™t listen to podcasts or music, only occasionally uses the radio, and when I asked him what he thinks about all day he just said โ€œwell, pots mostlyโ€

yk there's a symptom of ocd where it's trying to convince you your intrusive thought is true and it makes you spiral and it feels like 99% of people on twitter are walking reincarnation of these thoughts
TOP 1 THING YOU SHOULD NEVER DO AS SOMEONE WITH OCD: # 1 - GO ON TWITTER

why are people misunderstanding the OCD slur thing as "guy that says slurs for fun" and not "person that rereads their text 30 times before sending it because their brain is trying to convince them that they somehow accidentally said a slur in the message and they can't see it"

BASICALLY think of ocd as having the Twitter replies section manifesting in ur brain. Like how people on here will read u saying one thing and then claim you said the complete opposite. OCD is a manifestation of ur brain pulling the pancakes waffles shit on an extreme level

Iโ€™ve been watching UK comedy panel shows for years with my mum so Iโ€™ve been known that their humour is generally way better than American humour but now the whole world is realising it bc of SNLUK

not to gas the brits up too much but yea. americans take themselves too seriously and thatโ€™s why they fall flat a lot of the time

whoever started the idea that intrusive thoughts are something that you might act on if you're feeling silly quirk enough has ruined the general population's capacity to understand or discuss ocd

This is literally the opposite of what any therapist worth their salt will tell a patient with OCD. Attempting to fight intrusive thoughts will just exacerbate them. What actually helps is learning to accept them, therefore robbing them of their power.
and the truth is that if u do have rlly weird thoughts, it IS possible to work on them and get rid of them

so many friendships that were admittedly probably already on thin ice have been ultimately ruined by my OCD compulsion to overexplain to the point I sound like Iโ€™m trying to convince them of smthn when Iโ€™m just trying to make sure Iโ€™ve covered everything and not accidentally lied
I think the confessional compulsions are the worst part of OCD. I think encouraging those delusions like 2-3 years ago and โ€œletting go of shameโ€ was probably one of the most harmful things iโ€™ve ever done for myself
