Our Brian is at Peace
There is no pain in this world like a mother having to say goodbye to her son. It is an anguish I would not wish on anyone, an agony that rips a hole in the fabric of your soul. My heart is broken beyond words.
My beautiful son, Brian, passed away peacefully at 8:13 PM on the evening of August 28th. He was not alone. He was surrounded by all the love in the world—his devoted wife Alicia, his precious little boy Josh, his brothers, and I were all holding him as he finally went home to God.
He fought so hard, for so long, with a strength that amazed me every day. Now, his fight is over, and he is finally free from all pain. But a mother's pain is just beginning.
Please keep our family in your prayers. We are clinging to each other and to the beautiful memories he gave us.

Soon enough, by brother Joseph, who is also obsessed with data and is close to my line of work, will be running this account.
I have been in palliative care for a while; the Big C. Liver. But cancer won. I am maxed out on dopamine and Levophed and pain meds, but I have lots of lucidity (likely terminal lucidity). I have a week at best, I lost 30kg, and I made amends.
I ask you to be kind to strangers you meet; people are fighting battles we don't know about.

Remember when Oracle leased out 100k Blackwells to Tencent recently for dirt cheap bc it needed that 30% upfront really bad?
A lot of desperate compute provider now coming online w/ no takers. Too bad for Anthropic that they signed on to those long contracts when they could've just waited for the px to drop.
This AI hype cycle is just so hilarious. Demand goes up 3-4x in short period & ppl think compute revenue will always stay at this premium. Once the data centers actually come online, we have a glut like now.

GPU rental rates are crashing as supply surges:
• Blackwell scaling pushes H100/A100 prices down
• Neoclouds & P2P (Lambda, RunPod, Vast) undercut hyperscalers by 50%+
• AMD MI300 & ASIC competition mounting
H100 SXM rates hit sub-$2.50/hr on alternative clouds
Scarcity is over.
AI companies are already figuring out they don’t need what they signed up for and they are trying to offload it. I can only imagine the underlying debt financing not being paid. Exactly what I have been predicting. This is the tip of the iceberg.

I still remember introducing one of my suppliers to hot showers in Bogotá.
I had him install one of these bad boys.
The idea of hot water was so alien to him that he thought I was joking, I learned that he (and toddler + wife) bathed with almost freezing water everyday so I convinced him to install it.
Literally changed his life and schedule for life lol

BREAKING: Anthropic is now expected to receive a "high junk" rating from major credit rating agencies after its IPO, which could come as soon as November, per FT.
Details include:
1. Blackstone has told investors that Anthropic likely will not receive an investment-grade rating immediately after its IPO
2. Blackstone is working with banks that stumped up financing on selling the debt on to other investors
3. An investment-grade rating is "central" to Anthropic's ability to continue its AI buildout
4. The company says it expects to spend over $800 billion on computing infrastructure between now and 2045
Debt markets are increasingly in the spotlight as AI funding becomes less abundant.

BREAKING: Pete Hegseth PUNISHES the poor sailor who jumped off a US Navy ship -- AND his family -- in a heartless show of cruelty and spite!
Nicholas McKelvey was just 19 years old when he reached the end of his rope aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln.
He had spent 255 grueling days at sea, working 12-hour shifts in punishing heat, often without enough food, while his wife struggled to raise their children back home.
He had missed the birth of his baby daughter. His mother-in-law was in treatment for cancer. And when he sought help for his deteriorating mental health, he says the Navy directed him to a chaplain instead of a mental health professional.
Then, one August morning, McKelvey ran across the flight deck and plunged 67 feet into the Arabian Sea.
A helicopter crew rescued him. But instead of treating his desperate act as a mental health emergency, the Navy accused him of FAKING his crisis to escape deployment.
And on Thursday, the Navy moved to discharge him under conditions that will cost him his G.I. Bill education benefits – the very benefits he and his wife had been counting on to build a better life for their children.
“They'd rather blame the victim,” his wife, Samantha Larry, told The NYT.
McKelvey and Larry have been together since middle school. They became parents as teenagers, dropped out of high school and married last year. He joined the Navy in 2024 in hopes of giving his family some sort of stable future.
What he found instead was life aboard an aircraft carrier whose deployment stretched to a near-record 322 days as the war with Iran dragged on. Food supplies dwindled. Contact with home became difficult. McKelvey told his wife he wasn't sure he could finish the deployment.
“I didn't want to be there anymore,” he told the Times. “If I was going to die because of it, then that's just how it is.”
McKelvey was not alone in his existential angst. According to the Navy's own report to Congress, there were EIGHT suicide attempts among sailors in the Lincoln strike group during the deployment.
The Navy maintains that McKelvey deliberately jumped overboard to get out of his duties. Its records note that he wore a flotation vest and jumped when the sea was relatively calm. But one officer acknowledged in a report that the deployment had been so difficult it was “unsurprising that we might have a jumper.”
Now McKelvey and his wife are preparing to return to Florida with their 3-year-old son and 8-month-old daughter. They're staying with relatives and in temporary rental housing while they figure out how to support their family.
“We're going to have to pull out student loans,” Larry said. “It is essentially setting us up for just putting us in debt.”
The Navy kept these sailors at sea for nearly 11 months, sent them into a war zone, worked them through punishing conditions and watched their mental health deteriorate. Eight suicide attempts in a single strike group should have set off every alarm in the Pentagon.
Even if every day of that deployment was militarily necessary, the sacrifices these sailors made deserve recognition, compassion and care.
Instead, when one 19-year-old father finally broke, the Navy accused him of faking it and took away the college benefits he had earned his family's hopes on.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth loves to preach his “warrior ethos,” but what kind of warrior culture treats a sailor's psychological collapse as a disciplinary problem rather than a human emergency?
McKelvey gave the Navy everything he had until he had nothing left to give. Now the institution he served is sending him home to his wife and two small children with fewer opportunities than he had when he enlisted.
If this is how America repays the sacrifices of its young service members, the Pentagon has a great deal more to worry about than its recruiting numbers.

A 300-rack AI supercomputer powered by 9,600 Nvidia A100 GPUs is listed on eBay for $59.7M.
That’s 1,200 GPU compute servers with 384TB of combined GPU memory and roughly 1.4 petabytes of system RAM.
Each compute server connects eight A100 GPUs through $NVDA's NVSwitch technology.
More than six years after A100 launched, The seller is offering these systems refurbished for new AI training and inference deployments.
