Honestly I don’t get why more leftists don’t find AI risk and the fight to control/pause/regulate AI totally invigorating Here’s a technology that might revolutionize production in a way that will *materially* drive class consciousness—if they build AGI, it will make everyone acutely aware of their position as wage laborers, and it will create a visible, concentrated, tiny number of enemies in the form of the Big Tech firms. It is the classic case of heightening the contradictions. It’s exactly the kind of historical rupture that could lead to a democratic revolution, contingent on building an effective movement. I’d argue it’s already starting to happen with public concern about AI and datacenter opposition. Still embryonic, but it’s happening *without* us leading because the material conditions are changing and that is changing workers’ self concept as a class.
